"Lack luster experience at Tshokwane river camp"

8.0

The camp was good and comfortable. Some of the guides were knowledgeable and offered great game drives but overall, it does not compare to the quality and service that we found at satara plains.

The camp was ok but not exceptional. The food was ok. Everything was over salty. The service was ok but once again not exceptional. The toilets were not not functionning properly, the showers were not set up properly with the ladder pushing into the tent and the bag not hanging properly over the shower opening forcing us to Jimmy rig the shower and move the ladder every day. The game drive with Nathan was the worse game drive we have experienced. He was only paying attention to one guest, was not spotting any animal, his knowledge of the wildlife is sub par and made up answers to questions, drive fast and misses most sightings. The drive was also interrupted in the middle to go pick up a guest that was not even there and missed at least a 1/3 of the drive and raced to get to the snack/drink spot... drink requests for the drive were not consistent and often drinks were missing. Fortunately Mishak and Forgive saved the game drives for us and gave us amazing drives! Thank you to both. Although we had a good time, it was not the same outstanding experience we experienced at Satara plains...

Kruger Untamed was a unique experience and one I can highly recommend. The camp is remote and generates its own electricity and has no plumbing. Water is provided manually, and each tent is fitted with a chemical toilet and shower, which is filled up with hot water twice a day. Old world comforts like warm water bags and hot water flasks ensures that one stays warm. The staff works incredibly hard to make sure the tents are serviced and maintained, and the overall effect is one of luxury whilst feeling very close to nature, offering a level of authenticity that is hard to match elsewhere in the Kruger. Our toilet wasn’t serviced for a day, and the generator experienced issues which left us without electricity for a short while. The team did their best to resolve the challenges, and Seth, the front of house manager, is very professional and dealt with all issues promptly. The camp uses the public Kruger roads for game drives, but most roads are quiet as it is located far away from the larger camps. This ensures that sightings are uncongested. All rangers leading walks and drives were extremely professional. One suggestion is for their rangers to use radios to communicate sightings to other groups, to ensure sightings are shared and not missed. The food was very good. If they cook more food on an open fire (‘braai’) if possible, it will add to the experience. Overall we had a great time and will definitely try to visit again.
