Kyoto Rooms

The location was very good for the city centre, shops, and bars. It was very close to the river and the nature reserve. Everything was easily walkable. The hotel itself was very clean, and the restaurant below was excellent and delicious. The bathroom (shower) was one of the best I've experienced; I enjoyed a shower at least once a day. The decor was nicely done with Japanese pictures, wallpaper and window screens. You wouldn't be fooled into thinking that you were in Japan, but it was well done for the area.

The street noise was horrendous, and as the hotel doesn't have proper double or triple glazed windows, the noise would come straight into the rooms (Room 1 has cheap double glazing attached to the inside frame, but there are gaps between the panes, so most of the noise wasn't stopped; the other rooms had no glazing at all). The hotel is on a roundabout that is a major hub for multiple roads in and out of the city. The vehicle noise finally stopped at about 1am and then would start again at about 6am. To their credit, the hotel staff did move us to a room that was around the side, which helped a little, but they really need to install proper triple glazing to mitigate the issue; It sadly spoilt our experience of what could have been a fantastic hotel. The light pollution was also bad, coming around the curtains and screens, but we were able to stop most of that with towels and blankets. They really need to deal with the issue of noise and light pollution.

Didn’t realise that the rooms are above a restaurant and there’s music playing until roughly 11:30 to midnight, would advice bring earplugs if you sleep early
