Capital O 90939 Sandakan Central Hotel

Just needed somewhere safe & clean for the night as we were just passing through. Beds were comfy. The location is a 10 min walk to the mall.

We knew this was a basic hotel-they all seem to be in Sandakan. However the shower pressure is extremely bad & the only way to wash is to hold the shower head as if you leave it on the holder it just flies off the wall & hits you in the face. Room was right next to the lifts so was a little noisy. TV would not turn on.

For the area of Sandakan that this hotel is in this is a pretty good option if you really have to stay here! I would not recommend the area at all. The staff here were very attentive and friendly. The room was adequate but the pillows were horrendous! Just lumpy lumps of hard sponge! The shower and sink use a pump system which was not smooth at all and you either had a ‘power’ shower or a trickle. The hotel is near the Central Market, Harbour Mall & the promenade plus local shops but don’t get too excited!

Eventhough I consider it as a budget hotel, but they provide lift service for in house guest.

They don't provide you with tea or making facility in the room. The worst thing, if you are checking on Saturday, make sure you wake up at 5am to remove your vehicle, as the road in front of the hotel will be closed. The merit in the hotel is staff here will give u a wake up call, remind you to remove your car.

- there's a free refill of cold and hot water for your bottle - I really wanted to give them a better rating. The room looked quite nice and had potential but our experience just wasn't good. Maybe at least offer some discount or upgrade if there are this many things going wrong.

- the name on booking.com is different than it is in reality. It's OYO 89609 Sandakan Central Hotel on Google Maps - only cash or QR payment -> they sent us (white people) to the local bank where we wouldn't get any money - they told us three different prices, first they forgot the tourist tax, luckily we got enough money from the atm, then they forgot about a deposit we needed to also pay - they gave us 3 different rooms: first room you couldn't lock the door, second room you couldn't close the door, third room was fine - the "upgrade" we got was a room with windows as the first one didn't have any. They asked if we wanted twin or queen size bed, we said queen and we got the twin beds. Why even ask then? - pillows as hard as a rock - our toilet was clogged. But apparently it's "normal" as the toilet is new. Not sure if it's normal that the water level rises to the top and needs 5 min to flow back again. They offered that we could move in a new room the next day cause they were fully booked already (but we didn't meet/hear any other guests here) , next day we got moved back to the first room we were supposed to get -> basically a downgrade again - toilet in the new room sprayed water all over the floor, they fixed it - later we realized shower sprayed water from the tap - keycard for our room stopped working one day - at 11pm a worker tried to enter our room, we heard a key on the lock and saw him when we opened the door - you can hear everything on the hallway, they start cleaning rooms at like 9am, that's how I woke up
