This Riad is a true gem in Fes! Incredibly beautiful and well maintained, the tile plaster work is stunning. It truly feels like staying in a palace. We stayed in the ground floor Camila Suite, truly luxurious! There is a stunning rooftop pool with tables and chairs to relax, with access via elevator. There is an opportunity to buy wine and spirits at their bar as well. Breakfast is available and good, we left very early the last day and Abdoul had a takeaway breakfast for us! The riad is very close to Bab Ziat, a well known taxi stop and pick up for tours. It’s also great for finding your way back after walking around the intricate Medina of Fes all day. Being close to a major road and Bab Ziat helps get around. The suite we stayed in had a second floor bathroom, consider this if you need to take in account your mobility. It is well lit and the stairs are large.

We were set up with a tour guide the first day, which turned out to be a terrible experience and very expensive. What seemed like a courtesy artisan tour of Fes turned into a nightmare day of being forced to go into expensive shops where prices were extremely inflated. I would bet the guide wasn’t a guide and he made commission for taking us until these specific places. The “tour” conveniently avoided all of the normal shopping areas. We were forced to pay this guide $120 total for dragging us around all day. We did not ask for this. We missed our dinner reservation this day and the guide was pushy and mean at the end of the day, forcing us to go to an ATM to get him cash. The Riad needs to be more transparent about price and times. I would still stay in this Riad again but this does need to be addressed.

Loved everything.

This beautiful riad is a real gem, tucked just inside the medina walls. The clean, well appointed bedrooms open onto the open courtyard, where dinner and breakfast are served. The food was very good and we really enjoyed our morning omelettes and choice of pastries at breakfast. The kindness and helpfulness of the staff really shone through. Enormous thanks to Abdoul, Ahmet and the team for making our stay so special and memorable. Fes is a wonderful city and we would thoroughly recommend Riad Semlalia to anyone looking for a relaxing boutique experience, in a quiet area within the medina. We hope to return one day.
