Palazzo Previtera Rooms & Restaurant

We absolutely adored our stay here! Although our fall visit meant the beautiful gardens were nearing the end of their season, the sheer tranquility and charm of the property shone through. The garden and pool areas are lovely, offering many secret sitting spots perfect for quiet contemplation. The dinner experience was truly the highlight. We highly recommend planning this into your trip, as it's something you must schedule in advance. The chefs prepare a wonderful meal made just for you, making it an unforgettable occasion. They also offer a delightful breakfast and an evening wine area. Staying in one of the separate houses was a treat; we found the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views so captivating that we could have happily stayed on the property the entire time. The local area, with its many wineries and proximity to Mt. Etna, only adds to the appeal. We certainly plan to return!

Things started out well - I dropped an email saying we'd be in town earlier, and was kindly offered early check-in. Alfio, the manager, did provide a free breakfast on our last morning due to some of the problems (we think - it just turned up at our room unannounced) but it arrived as we were packing and waiting for our taxi and we were not able to enjoy it at all. Too little, too late.

Was made to feel awkward during check-in, when we were told we had booked a table at the restaurant (we had only enquired) and if we didn't turn up it would cause problems. Basically ended up cancelling an existing reservation (without any thanks from the manager) and guilted into having their blind tasting menu, which turned out to be the worst food we ate (raw horse meat included) in our 2 week trip. We went to Michelin starred restaurant the next night and the difference was crazy. The room itself is lovely, however the photos of the room at the point of booking made it appear that there was a loft area. This, however, was outside the room in a public area. We were not the only confused guests, as the people staying in the room opposite thought the same and even walked into our room at one point! The pool itself is small (only 6 sunbeds) but nicely put together. However for large parts of the day, there were construction workers using loud power tools and shouting (and sometimes singing). It was not the most peaceful place to be, and our 'laze by the pool' day was a waste. It would have been nice to have been told about this in advance as we would have stayed elsewhere. Alfio said it was 'impossible' to offer any reduction in price to reflect this. There's also very limited poolside drinks service - I think you have to wait for 5pm or 6pm and then go to reception and ask, which, again, defeats the purpose of chilling by the pool. Towels were also usually left on sunbeds too, by guests who were not around for hours, and these were just left by staff, so you may struggle to even lie by the pool at times. Overall I get the feeling Alfio has been forced into turning his family home into a hotel and is resentful. He also does not have the temperament to be a hotel manager, he is far too argumentative.

We were attracted to this location for the restaurant which lived up to expectations. The hotel is very unusual and has more the feel of a somewhat eccentric estate house. We enjoyed it and the gardens despite the poor weather. There is history, comfort and beauty strewn around the varied alcoves and paths.

Nothing to dislike but some of the quirks of the hotel wouldn't be value for all tastes.

Both the charming cottage and main building maintain this whimsical magic while providing pristine comfort. The museum component adds incredible depth, offering rich insights into local history and culture that enhance the entire experience. Palazzo Previtera is truly a hidden gem that delivers an unforgettable escape into beauty, hospitality, and authentic Sicilian charm. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

The pool and breakfast were nice. Our bedroom was also conformable, cleaned an quiet.

The pictures from the website or Booking are slightly misleading. I was expecting a palazzo-like hotel, not necessarily luxurious but with some historical/charming/common areas (that part is actually private).

Struttura particolare, un bel tuffo nella storia, giardino molto bello con angoli deliziosi. Zona piscina molto carina e ben curata.

Le tende nelle camere non oscuravano completamente dalla luce al mattino e l’assenza di zanzariere in alcune porte/finestre rendeva più complicato far circolare aria, soprattutto nella camera da letto al piano terra.
