Palazzo Moresco

Such a wonderful pre-cruise stay in San Marinella, a beach town 25 minutes south of Civitavecchia port. Hotel arranged a pickup car at Rome Fiumicino airport at 9 am. Welcome drink of espresso & cold mineral water. I paid extra for early check in. After a drink at the restaurant overlooking the sea I took a nap on a cushioned beach lounge chair in a back garden, listening to birds chirping & a nice breeze. After checked in to my room with an ocean view, I relaxed in a jacuzzi & sauna, all to myself, then to lunch, then to dinner among Italian vacationers The hotel arranged a car to take me to the port. As we approached Civitavecchia city I was so glad that I stayed in San Marinella, away from tourists & noise The only thing is the bathroom is not in the room right across the room I had to maneuver 2 keys & also AC. Is in the room only. Since I stayed in August the corridor is no AC bathroom no AC but when you open up the blind shutters, the view of the back garden & the city behind it. I highly recommend a stay here as pre-cruise, or just to wind down. Beach (rocky) is within an easy walk. Service is excellent & personable. Food was delicious & the ambiance is quite nice. I felt very safe & peaceful.

Rather than staying in Civitavecchia pre-cruise, we opted for something different--a two-night stay in the beach town of Santa Marinella, just a few miles south of the port. This property has been completely renovated, subject to local laws regulating the restoration of historically important buildings. For example, to preserve rooms with a sea view, some private bathrooms could not be included en suite, but rather were located just a few steps across the hall. Additionally, access to upper level rooms was limited to a staircase--no lifts were available to facilitate the movement of luggage. On some of the hottest, most humid days of the year, the in-room air conditioning worked perfectly, but in the hallways and public areas, no a/c or overhead fans were available to mitigate the heat or humidity. These minor quibbles were easily overcome by the gracious hospitality and attentiveness of the staff, the cleanliness of the facilities, and the well-manicured grounds. Centrally located with easy beach access and proximity to shops and restaurants, this property should be seriously considered by those travelers who seek an alternative to the ultra-busy cruise port. On our next visit involving a cruise out of Civitavecchia, we'll likely return to the Palazzo Moresco.

The staff was absolutely delightful. Very friendly and helpful. The patio and the meals were took there were excellent. The location was perfect for hitting the beach or the town and then returning to a quiet Oasis on the property. The rooms were spacious and clean. We will definitely be back!

One of the bedrooms in the Penthouse did not have an air conditioning unit. The other 2 bedrooms were very cool. It would have been nice to have at least a large fan in there since I think there were construction restrictions on adding an AC unit in that room.

The staff were lovely, the room very clean and the bed and pillow combo was excellent.

There should be a coffee maker in the room as there is tea. I know it’s an old facility but the bathroom across the hall is a little awkward.

Andrea could not do enough for us. What a find . Total service - every attention to detail.
