Antico Monastero

We stayed here a couple of nights using this as a base for Matera. Loved our stay here, would definitely recommend. The host Anna is very nice and responsive.

Really nice room in superb location, great little street of the old town with atmosphere. The host very friendly. Short drive to the airport.

Host Anna was a great communicator and on site at the agreed times. Limited English but with the help of translate all text messages were clear. Very friendly and helpful. Even printed our boarding passes for our Ryanair flight from Bari and provided transport to the airport

Parking is a nightmare

Everything you need is of high quality - bathroom equipment, bed, pillows and airconditioning which brings the temperature down several degrees within minutes. Regarding the breakfast, expect typical italian: coffee + 1 pastry (but a very good one :) but there’s an excellent salumeria nearby (within 5 minutes walk) where they’ll prepare for you great sandwiches with delicious ham and cheese.

Be aware that there’s stairs without an elevator and you can’t stop by car in front of the building. The only bizzarre thing is the private parking for which you need to pay extra - they insisted on leaving the keys in the car… we didn’t do it so we had to go there at 7am and repark the car to the street. I have never been asked to leave the keys in the car before and it is generally against the rules of most car rental companies and to me personally against common sense as well…
