Varenna Bellevue

Location

All downstairs was damp. Poor ventilation meant towels didn't dry and downstairs smelt of damp. It rained 1.5 days. An umbrella in the apartment would have been good.

Size and space, beautiful views, balcony, really close to ferry port

Traffic noise at night (you can’t tell from the photos but there is quite a busy thoroughfare between the property and the lake), no air con, need to take care on the internal staircase, no coffee maker other than a pod machine we couldn’t get pods for

No breakfast provided which was fine. Accommodation is convenient to train and boat departures, and just a short walk into town. Beautiful apartment, had everything we needed (including a washing machine - very handy with kids!). Great balcony overlooking the lake and in the shade to have your morning coffee :) Hosts were fantastic. As long as you don’t mind road noise, would highly recommend.

The apartment is on a main road and very noisy with many loud cars and motorcycles through the day and night. Particularly in July when it’s hot, you want the windows open and the road noise is definitely there. We did get used to it, but perhaps a way to get around this would be to have air con, so you could close the windows and shut out the the noise? In general the apartment was very cool though and I’d prefer not to sleep in air con if possible.

Fantastic location and incredible view of the lake.

Leaking toilet that progressively got worse and made the bathroom very musty (and mouldy) and there were no hooks or rails to hang towels. Stairs between floors are hazardous.

Great location with lovely views and excellent balcony/terrace. Lovely decor and excellent facilities. Near restaurants, train and ferry.

Spiral staircase down to bedrooms & bathroom was quite steep but ok with care

Absolutely perfect inside with lots of space & the most amazing views. The building itself is old, but carries the old charm surrounding. Once inside your actual unit, we were pleasantly surprised as everything was updated to fit modern day living as it tastefully embraced the old with new. I highly recommend to book the 2 bedrooms with private balcony. In addition, if you happen to have the room we had (room 122, which has 2 floors), there is a door on the 1st floor of the main entrance you can open from inside your unit to enter your suitcase through (into a bedroom) vs climbing the stairs.

This doesn’t have an elevator nor air conditioning. We didn’t need air as it was early June & they supply fans everywhere. If you don’t have the unit we had, you would need to carry your suitcases up & could be difficult if you are older or in our situation, my husband who happened to throw his shoulder out, right before our trip.

Location, location, location. This two level apartment with two bedrooms and one bathroom downstairs and a living area, kitchen and outdoor balcony overlooking the lake with uninterrupted views was superb. For the practical it is within walking distance of the station, ferry terminal and town square. And having explored other villages/towns on Lake Como we would thoroughly recommend Varenna as a base for exploration of this amazing part of the world. The holiday rental staff were very cordial. The added bonus was a washing machine facility.

The bed in the main room could be updated as it was uncomfortable.
