Scallywags Joglo Villa

Lovely large pool in front of a cleverly decorated 3 bedroom villa, which was surrounded by generous bougainvillea and palms. There was an outdoor kitchen and each bedroom had an outdoor bathroom. The rooms were small but the temperature control was great and the beds were comfortable. The location was fairly central- you could walk for 5-10 minutes and be at a beach at either end of the island for sunrise, breakfast or sunset. Reception organised a horse and cart to carry our bags to the room. The breakfast was served at their restaurant on the beach each morning and was delicious.

I have no complaints whatsoever, we had a fantastic time at Scallywags.

Every morning we had different options for our breakfast, everything was delicious. The brakfast place was directly at the beach. The team was very friendly with our kids. From the Scallywags joglo villa to the beach and breakfast place you have to walk around 10 Minutes.

The layout of the villa is ideal, with all of the bedrooms, facing the pool and common rooms. It was nice. While the pool is small. It was a great size for the property. The location is very central and splits going to either the East Coast Beach (best snorkeling on the island) and the West Coast Beach (best beach for sunsets ) evenly. Loads of shops, cafes, etc within a block.

We had issues with the air conditioners, not working properly which led to excessive bugs and mosquitoes (3 of our 5 family members were bit repeatedly by spiders in the beds all over their legs and arms causing a great deal of discomfort. housekeeping did not replenish towels until we requested more. all of the staff was incredibly kind however, in our brief stay, there is there seem to be issue after issue. The ACs do not come on strong enough to deter a great deal of the insects, and when you stay on Gili air, you need a place that has really strong AC in the bedrooms if you do not want to be eaten alive at night. 

The villa is lovely and the pool was great to cool down in. The host provided us with a bike each for the whole family. We choose to have breakfast at the main resort every morning, a great breakfast and our morning short family cycle was a very memorable and fun experience.

The property is around 100/150 metres from the grand mosque. We stayed during Ramadan, we are culturally sensitive and are are used to the call to prayer, but were quite surprised about the length of the prayer times and the volume. In an evening it was over 2 hours, and around 30- 40 minutes at around 4 am. We tried to go with the flow, buy ear plugs and not complain, but we did all really struggle. I can't comment on what it is like outside Ramadan.

The private pool is great, although there is no shade above it making it almost unusable for the middle of the day, it also made it very hot like a hot bath which isn't great when you are wanting to cool down. It was nice to have our own kitchen as we like to cook. It is a nice garden that surrounds the villa.

The location is almost directly next door to a mosque and it blasts a call to prayer every couple of hours (sometimes up to 6 or 7 times a day) and it lasts for a minimum of 40 mins, sometimes it goes for an hour and a half. It also starts at 4 am so don't expect to sleep in, even if you have ear plugs it is blasted so loud that nothing helps. It goes up until 9 pm some days too. We travelled with our baby who needs 2 naps per day and this made it almost impossible for him to sleep which was an absolute nightmare. Whilst this is not the villa's fault it was not mentioned anywhere in the listing. Once we notified management they offered us a downgrade to another villa that had one less room and no kitchen at the exact same price which didn't seem fair at all. The listing mentioned that we could get a pool fence and they were unable to supply us with this, which meant we were on edge the entire time making sure our baby didn't fall in the pool. The pictures for the villa are inaccurate, there is no fencing around the place and this also made it difficult with the baby. The king bed in bedroom #3 is so very loud and creaky, every time you adjust your position in bed you will get woken up! The place was quite dusty and could do with a really deep clean. Breakfast was pretty average, not many healthy options. No one greeted us on arrival, we had no key and a tired baby, I previously asked for the cot to be set up for when we arrived but it was not. We literally pushed the door to unlock it and it opened. It was difficult to get a hold of any of the staff. They told us they were busy taking care of other people in other villas.

Fabulous villa! Comfortable beds. Wonderful pool, gardens.

Very stylish, cozy and comfortable villa. Amazing stuff. Excellent breakfast. Good location in the Centre of the island. We got bikes on villa. Want come back.
