Sanderling Resort Residences

I stayed at the sanderling for the first time in 2017 and had a wonderful stay, however my recent stay found the hotel in a state of disrepair. The property has not been maintained to its former standards. The walls are heavily marked with wear and tear, and the carpets are stained and way overdue for replacement. The walls of our room were spotted with various spills and suitcase scuffs. I stepped on an open safety pin and noticed used tissues under the bed. It was also clear the hallways and rooms had not been vacuumed in some time. Yes, the location is beautiful, but there is nothing luxury about this property. This once-grand resort now feels more like a neglected afterthought. It’s disappointing to see a place with so much potential fall so far from its former glory. At checkout I voiced my concerns to management only to receive lip service about a renovation beginning in November, however, the hotel is not in any condition to accept reservations and host guests.

Ultimately the manager waived the resort fee - which I expected since we had to carry our own beach chairs and umbrellas out to the beach and there were rarely beach/pool towels available. Finally, we booked a king room through hotels.com but were given a room with two queen beds. The manager informed me that the property could not guarantee room types booked via third party, which I have never heard of before.

The condition of the property and facilities are tired and worn. The room however was clean and the bed was comfortable. Lack of a resort feel despite the resort fees. The building exterior requires capital needs (worn siding and deteriorating roof and wood). The pool furniture was broken and very dated. The location is good, and this is likely the reason the resort has been able to maintain occupancy without making necessary building and furniture upgrades.

This was our first time in Outer Banks. This resort was beautiful and everything was just so convenient. They helped us plan off-site activities. The food was excellent. We would definitely come back.

Nice location. The property definitely needs renovation. It has a lot of potential with multiple restaurants and ideal location. Also they need more beach chairs . There is no one directly on the beach at all time setting up umbrellas. Finally, if anybody has allergies to animals they do allow dogs in every single room of the hotel. I believe renovation is pending next year so would love to revisit when it does.

Love that they had an adult pool and hot tub separate from kids.

Relaxing Adult only pool was perfect

It was such a great place to relax and unwind. The staff was super friendly and my room was amazing!
