Zostel Hampi (Gangavathi)

Das Personal und die Umgebung waren sehr gut. Es gab auch kleine Angebote und die Leute im Hostel sind auf Bekanntschaften aus.

Es ist Recht weit weg von allem und man muss etwas mit den verhältnismäßig Recht teuren Preisen leben, wenn man kein Auto oder Scooter hat. Der Scooter Verleih war für 800 pro Tag auch teuer, auch wenn die Scooter eine sehr gute Qualität haben

The property is undeniably beautiful—set amid rocky hills and lush greenery, with thoughtfully designed landscaping, ponds, and plant life that create a serene, nature-rich atmosphere. Unfortunately, this was the only highlight of our stay.

Our experience with accommodation and service was disappointing. We initially booked a Mud Cottage, which we liked, but were moved after one night due to renovation noise next room. This could have been managed better without disrupting guests mid-stay. The alternative “upgrade” (Deluxe Double Room) was smaller and less functional, lacking basic storage space. After two nights, we were shifted back to a Mud Cottage. When we requested assistance with luggage, a staff member refused, stating that as a hostel, they do not help with baggage—despite the inconvenience being caused by their own room changes. The issues continued. The cottage we were moved back into was not cleaned properly after renovation and was dusty, including the bathroom. The fan was also faulty, and only after repeated complaints were we moved yet again. In total, we had to change rooms three times during a one-week stay. Given the remote location, dining on the property was unavoidable. However, the food was underwhelming and overpriced. Additionally, pets freely roam the dining area, which felt unhygienic due to fur shedding—despite footwear not being allowed in the same space. Another concern is their policy of collecting full payment at the start of the stay, which seems unreasonable, especially given the service issues. Overall, I would not recommend this property, as the negatives significantly outweigh the positives.

Location - wasted time going to and from sites but worth it for the above. Didnt like their auto drivers of handling guests and payment - seperate to hostel of course. We got 1 auto for all day for 2500 (says 1800 organised through hostel) but extra for our sunrise and sunset. Then had to get a 1 way auto after sunset for 1200. Doesn't make sense. Maybe hostel could organize a set of drivers who dont ripp off guests. Always haggle. Constructive ideas: a little shelf in the bunk bed bunk rooms to put things on to charge and may curtains for the bunks.

Thoughtfully designed property, and the mud cottages are nice. In house restaurant also had pretty decent food and the staff was really helpful. There's a scooter rental spot right outside.

It's a little far (45 mins by scooter) from the main sights - which may be a positive, just depends on what you're looking for. It can also be a little noisy, because the cottages are close together. Some of the common spaces could use a bit of TLC but overall we had a good experience.
