Riders Lodge - STAY LAGOM

Beautiful accommodation. Cozy, comfortable, well finished and the wood fired hot tub is great and a good size (we overfilled it and ended up going through 2 bags of wood and a basket but we like it hot!). Exactly the stay we wanted. Will be back.

We loved everything about this place, it was such a last minute gem I’m so happy we were able to book it with such short notice. It was beautiful, clean and has definitely provided me with home interior inspiration. The location was amazing and the hosts were so easy to contact with quick replies. I cant Wait to stay here again.

We were so lucky to find this amazing place last minute. We didn't quite know what to expect, and were so pleasantly surprised. This is a beautiful space which was more than enough for our party of 4 adults and 2 children. The beds were very comfy and the kitchen was well equipped. Our favourite has to have been sitting in your own little private courtyard in the evening with the fairy lights lit above. We will absolutely be back and next time look forward to trying the hot tub! The hosts were brilliant - very attentive!

The location was great (you need a car, but that's typical of the area). Lots of parking. Great spacious and characterful place. Would advise great for groups of friends in the summer.

Overall, sadly, I was disappointed. A big draw for me (my main search criteria) was the hot tub. After booking, I was told that if I wanted someone to "prepare" the hot tub, it cost £50. On enquiring, I was told that it was a wood fired tub and could take 6 hours(!) to heat and "if we were planning on using it on the 1st night" it would be recommended to use this service. As we booked for 1 night, we wouldn't have been able to use it at all. Personally, I think that clarification should be made on the listing to show this, so I hope this review is helpful to those, like us, who did not anticipate spending 1/4 again to actually use the facilities listed. The stay was a birthday gift for my partner, so I shelled out. In the end, we couldn't use it anyway, as shortly before check in time I received a message that the lights and pump weren't working (which I didn't see). We arrived and excitedly got into our swimsuits- but when we checked it, the hot tub had been prepared, but wasn't anywhere near hot, so we continued to add wood for about 2 hours, after which we were like, oh well, let's just hop in anyway and realised we were just sat in a tepid bath in the rain in the dark, lol. I spoke to one of the Lagom staff on the phone and they were very responsive and pleasant, and the £50 charge was taken off. But I would really advise anyone going not to factor the hot tub into the stay. Tending the fire is a full time job, as the wood burner is very small, and to heat the tub requires an insane amount of wood, all of which is charged, and it's in a semi fenced off area at the back of the property but I felt very exposed to people passing by in the driveway of the main house. It was also cold indoors, and the chess set we settled on post-tub disappointment was broken/incomplete. I think for a summer trip with a big group for a few days, ideal, but not a romantic weekend away!
