"RUN RUN RUN"

This was, without question, the most traumatic travel experience of my life. From the moment we stepped into the building, it felt like we had entered a haunted, abandoned asylum. The smell of mold hit us like a wall—and not just any mold. We’re talking rotting, decades-old, soaked-into-the-walls kind of mold. The door to our room? Cracked wide open, like someone had kicked it in and no one bothered to fix it. If I hadn’t been traveling with my sister, this would have been a full-blown horror movie scenario for any solo female traveler. And just when we thought things couldn’t get more unsettling, the owner sent us multiple door codes—and guess what? One of them opened someone else’s room. We were horrified. Not only did this make us feel anxious about the safety of our belongings, but also about our own personal safety. We tried to explain it to the owner, and he acted completely delusional, refusing to acknowledge the issue like it wasn’t even happening. Think about it: if we got someone else’s code, how do we know someone else didn’t get ours? That’s a massive security issue. Our fears weren’t irrational—they were common sense. Our room could’ve been accessed by anyone at any time. The bed reeked of mildew, stale cigarettes, and broken dreams. The towels? Damp. Filthy. As if they’d been dragged through a swamp and wrung out just enough to pass as clean. I wouldn’t dry a dog with them, let alone use them myself. As if that wasn’t enough, we got zero sleep. The entire night, people gathered in the shared kitchen like it was a rave—laughing, shouting, and talking on speakerphones like they were filming a reality show. I politely asked several times for them to keep it down. In return? Vulgar, misogynistic insults hurled at me like I was interrupting their sacred ritual of chaos. We were there for work, already exhausted, and ended up more drained than if we had pulled an all-nighter in an airport bathroom. Not a wink of sleep. In the morning, we packed up and
