B&B Ire

As it is a private residence it feels very homely and hyggeligt. And the view over the Disco Bay is amazing.

Hans and Mølle were fabulous hosts! They were really welcoming, I felt like I was part of the family. They even let me try some traditional Greenlandic foods for dinner! Would highly recommend and will be back if I ever pass through Ilulissat again.

Nothing! Everything was really good.

The owners were extremely kind and made me feel at home (for example I was invited several times to have dinner with them). A truly precious experience.

The property is extremely clean, the heating is very sufficient and the location offers prime viewing of the fiord. Hans and Mona are very kind and welcoming and always have smiles on their faces. Mona is a great baker and supplied homemade breads for breakfast.

There is nothing that I did not like about staying at the B&B Ire.

The host are really nice, thank you so much Hans & Mona😊 the location is perfect for hiking to yellow trail and seeing northern lights at the terrace not only once but twice is the best part of our trip !!!

Clean home. The hosts invited also me to Hans' birthday party and offered a festive dinner with no shortage of anything. We had a great time and interesting talks.

This is a homestay. The double room is next to the hosts' bedroom and more or less in the centre of the house. (The single room is also not too far but a few steps further, next to the entrance of the house.) In the double room you can hear all noises and feel all movements in the house. If you don't share the same rhythm, getting up around 6 am and going to bed around 9 pm, you may feel disturbed or be afraid you cause disturbance. I paid 120 euros (900 DKK) per night for my stay, the other guest (in the single room) said he paid the half. This is straighforward, but you might reconsider the pricing for the double room with single occupancy (especially if you stay a bit longer, like four nights like I did). I thought the price was too much, no matter how much in Ilulissat we're in. The simple, basic breakfast didn't compensate for it, although the birthday dinner somewhat did. More pictures of the house wouldn't be a bad idea. Also adding the place to Google Maps, as not all taxi drivers know the place.

Stayng with Hans and Mona is a very special experience, because it is one of the only places where you can experience living in a locals house. Both of them were lovely people with a great sense of humour. In the beginning they seemed a bit reserved, but I later learned that this is quite common for Greenlanders. It took a bit of time, but then I felt like home. We had a lot fun when Mona taught me some words in Greenlandic. The breakfast was great with Müsli and sweet breads handmade by Mona. They even invited me to have dinner with them one evening which was very nice. And they let me use the washing machine (which is normally not available for guests) when I came home from an excursion with local fishermen, with all my clothes smelling like fish ;)

There was only one major thing that was a problem for me, which was the electronic doorlock on the entrance door that made a rining sound every time someone left or came in. Since the door was right next to my room and Mona and Hans had a very early morning routine, I struggled a bit with getting enough sleep, while still being able to enjoy the midnight sun outside at the icefjord. Hans explained to me that they need the ringtone to make sure the door is really closed, otherwise the wind may flap it open, but I really hope they can find a different solution for that in the future. Else, what could be improved is maybe giving some space in the cupboards, so that the guests dont have to live out of their suitcase. Also a chair and table in the room would be really great for people who stay a bit longer. And maybe being able to put some food in the fridge. But of course the latter are up to the hosts wether they can provide them.

Great host (lovely couple taking care), accommodation is close to the Center (10min walk) and to the nature walk (5min). The room is clean, sufficient space with strong WiFi.
