Imakumano Terrace - Kenzan An 乾山庵

One of the best stays in Japan. This spot was so thoughtful and beautiful! The owner has truly thought of every need and it’s a lovely quiet oasis within walking distance to all the sights of Kyoto. The beds were gloriously comfortable, the treats a delight and the bath a wonderful soak at the end of a long day of walking. Don’t hesitate to choose this property as your stay!

Loved the space and vibes and the owner met with us when we arrived and gave us an entire tour of the place. Amazing hospitality and very cozy accommodation.

Everything. Very beautifully-renovated tradition Machiya houses in a small laneway. Our host has amazing taste and catered for absolutely everything, including things we had no idea we needed (herbal warming eye-steam mask, anyone?). Loved our stay and would come back in a heartbeat.

Location is a fair walk from bus stations, but still reasonable. As upside it is peaceful area

Rachel was very helpful before and during the stay. I really enjoyed staying in a traditional Japanese house with some additional modern comforts. The welcome gift was very thoughtful, particularly after such a long trip. Location is excellent, very peaceful and local shops and bars are easily in walking distance. An uber into the city costs approximately 1500 yen, I would advise uber as the local taxi drivers really struggled to find the property. After staying here for 5 nights for leisure, I then stayed in a normal hotel for another 4 nights for business in the city centre at a similar price. It was a night and day difference. I can wholeheartedly recommend this property.

Stairs are very steep, not an issue for me but do keep in mind if you have mobility issues.

Kenzan An was a wonderful home base in Kyoto. It was a clean, cozy, artfully decorated, fully stocked apartment, and we definitely took advantage of the bathtub. Although more people could've stayed there, we were a couple with a lot of luggage, so the extra space was appreciated. As others have noted, the staff (including Rachel's dog Cypher!) were the highlight. Rachel was extremely communicative, generous, and helpful. We had some challenging logistics because we were ending our cycle tour in Kyoto, and Rachel’s hospitality was a huge bonus. We absolutely recommend this place to anyone passing through Kyoto and looking for a comfortable apartment to crash in.

Honestly, there was nothing that we didn't like about this place. It was a little bit uphill through some narrow streets, but that arguably makes it quieter than downtown.

Very comfortable. Clean. Loved all the snacks and beverages they provided as well as the nespresso machine. Appreciated the thicker toilet paper too.

A little off the beaten path but also part of its charm.

I would rate this accommodation higher than 10 if I could! The experience is exceptional and definitely my best stay in Japan yet. Don't think twice and book it right away!!!
