Guesthouse Hatenashi - Vacation STAY 43934v

The owner was very friendly.

Right next to the supermarket so we could get ingredients for dinner and breakfast. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. Rooms have their own sinks which was a bonus. The room stayed very warm for winter. Really nice views and close to other sightseeing places.

The wall plugs are at the end of the beds. Not a big deal.

Hostel style accommodation, common kitchen, nice to talk with other guests. Clean Close to small supermarket.

Bit expensive for type of property.

The place was clean and spacious and the bath was nice and hot. The Guesthouse also has a lovely location by a grocery store and bus stop very close by and a great view of the river and valley out the kitchen area windows. On top of that the host was super nice and helpful - answering all our questions and making sure we were comfortable during our stay. We truly enjoyed talking with him!. He even lent me a boot dryer since my shoes got wet walking in the rain :) Overall a great place to stay and somewhere I'd recommend to anyone in the area.

The only difficulty I had with this place was that the bus didn't come by when we needed to leave and the bus doesn't run super frequently so we had to wait about an hour for the next one. We had no issues getting the bus to the Guesthouse but did have trouble getting back to Hongu from the Guesthouse.

Great housing near Kumano Hongu Taisha. Clean and cozy. Easy check-in. Great views from the windows!

The person in charge was very friendly and communicated efficiently. Nice and quiet place.A supermarket is 50 m from the accommodation and they are open from 9:00-18:00.

This is not the host's fault,but the bus services are not reliable (especially the one in the early morning). Keep this in mind if you want to go to Hongucho Hongu as it takes about 1h - 1h 30 mins to walk from the accommodation.

The Hatenashi Guesthouse was my last overnight stay on the Kumano Kodo. And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The accommodation has the feel of a hostel like on the Camino, which is really great. I had a double room, but i think there are also triple rooms for larger groups on the first floor. On the ground floor there are 3 rooms with double beds. There is also a well-equipped kitchen and a laundry room so you can wash your dirty laundry. A supermarket is only few meters away. The Internet is fast and stable. The whole thing felt like a good hostel on the Camino and since I was on a pilgrimage, that was a good fit. It is relatively easy to get back to the Kumano Kodo from the guesthouse. Many people skip the place and go straight to the end point of the pilgrimage. But maybe you just stop here.

We forgot an e-reader and found out in the evening. The host found it for us and then brought it, 30 minutes away to our new location, at 10:30 pm! Excellent service. Also, in the location the is a shared place to cook and eat. We met nice people there!

There is a public bus that brings you right to the location. But that bus runs only a few times a day. Shops are remote so it's a way of planning to buy your food etc. well in advance.

Friendly and helpful staff. Scenic location right by the river. Plenty of free parking.
