Nice hotel but a shame no evening meals available

Tout était satisfaisant dans l'ensemble à part la salle de bain nous avions une chambre à l'étage (mansardée) la salle de bain avec baignoire étant à cet endroit compliqué de prendre une douche debout sinon très bien, bonne accueil, bonne prestation

The Parc Hotel is near the center of the city and has convenient parking and a pretty yard. We expected a room in the charming old home but were instead placed in a very pedestrian room in an adjacent building. Though there were very few guests, no room was ready when we arrived at 1 pm. We had to come back at 3:00. All that said, the room was clean and quiet.

This Hotel is well situated for a walk into town and whilst it does not have a restaurant there are several within a few hundred yards. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed and on our visit we were given a good breakfast with plenty of choice. The staff were friendly and efficient. There is plenty of parking within the walled grounds but we were pleased to be given secure cycle storage as we were touring along the Mayenne river.

The Hotel is situated a short walk from the town of Chateau Gontier. We lived a few miles away from here for a number of years so we knew it from the outside. We were warmly greeted by a very nice English speaking lady, and shown to our room. It's very pleasant and clean and has a Gym, but as with most French hotels what you pay for is a room, which in traditional French style is sparse and basic. Ours was a family room so was of a decent size with a small metal table & chairs in the middle of it.There was a separate toilet and bath but only a shower tube attached to the mixer tap on the bath but no holder or screen/curtain. We had thought breakfast was included but over our 2 day stay our daughter had a continental breakfast (some cereal) which was charged at 11.50 eur so we were glad we didn't all have "breakfast" on both days. We booked our stay for 2 days through hotels.com and it came to a total of 190 eur for three of us for 2 nights, as opposed to the room rate that was being displayed in our room of 115 eur per night, plus 15 eur per additional person which would have come to 290 eur and they had the bill right!!

Thanks to expedia, we gained a substantial discount on one of the superior rooms in the hotel where we stayed for four days last week. The Parc Hotel is in a good position not far from the centre of Chateau Gontier. The bedroom and public rooms were very clean, although the bathroom needs a makeover. The lack of proper shower faciliities (just a hand-held one in the bath) is a shortcoming, as is the inabilty to get the mix of hot and cold water to the right temperature on some days. This is offset by an excellent buffet breakfast (not included in the price) and very friendly, helpful staff. It would have helped to have some info on what restaurants were open, and on which days- particularly in August. The hotel does not provide evening meals, so it is not as if it would be aiding the opposition! it also has a very nice pool and a tennis court, as well as games for kids. It is 40-odd kilometres from Angers, and substantially cheaper than most hotels in the Loire Valley- and there are many beautiful privately-owned chateaux in the local countryside.
