Challoner House - sleeps 5

I am not a picky person. To be happy, all I need is a comfortable bed and some peace and quiet at night. This house had neither. The mattresses were a disaster—it felt like someone had just thrown a blanket over metal springs. As for the cleanliness of the house... the floor looked like it had never been washed. The dishes were barely rinsed, and there was even cheese left on a knife. But the worst part was the plumbing. The whole time, a rattling, pounding faucet kept us awake. It didn't just disturb us; it also woke up the neighbor, who came over to yell at me at 3:00 AM as if I were the one causing the broken plumbing and the noise it made. I do not recommend this house. And a word of advice to the owner: you better clean properly, replace the mattresses, and fix the plumbing!!

Nice and quiet place . The house was very clean and tidy , exactly what we need it . 100% recommended 😊

Very happy with out stay. We stayed here over Christmas while visiting family nearby. The host went out of her way to make us feel at home, even putting up a Christmas tree and lights. Communication re heating and key-pickup was excellent. I was slightly concerned about kitchen facilities having read other reviews. While I might have struggled to cook Christmas dinner there that was never the plan. Plenty of pots, pans, baking sheets etc. and the oven/hobs worked fine, so I don't really understand the problems others experienced. Would happily stay again if the need arose.

Could have been another couple of sets of cutlery in a house that sleeps 5. But if that's the main criticism the host is clearly doing lots of things right. Not cheap but pretty good value given the lack of suitable alternatives.

Great central quiet location, easily accessible to local attractions. Comfortable house for a family trip. Nice and warm considering the cooler weather. Good communication from the host which was appreciated.

The kitchen was disappointing - in particular the cookware which was really only fit for the bin. The house would benefit from a new set of crockery, cups, glasses, oven trays and general cookware. No plug sockets near any of the available mirrors to dry hair. A freestanding vanity mirror in any of the rooms would be a helpful addition.

Couple more pillows on the beds would have been great.
