Charming, Happy 1-Bed Oasis: RVA Retreat Awaits!

I loved the property

I’ve had a wonderful stay in this retreat and I look forward to come again next time.

For some reason, the garbage truck for the area came by but did not pick up the garbage in front of the apartment. Not your fault but thought you would like to know.

We liked the location. Relatives in the area. Would stay in the property again.

The area was just ok. There appeared to be a few shops/food within walking distance but we didn't hang around long enough to experience any of it.

The actual property didn't match the photos. The photos had to come from when the unit was first refurbished, not its current condition. There was mold and trash on the steps leading up to the door. It gave the notion that the property isn't maintained or checked on regularly. This looks like it was a 4 unit apartment that they purchased and refurbished one room. The other 3 units looked like they were leased & occupied by a group home or halfway house. None of the units exteriors looked presentable. The entire property looked "suspect". Upon entering our room there was a faint mildew and tobacco smoke smell. Obviously someone smoked in there prior to our stay and the room wasn't property cleaned. The bed sheets were stained as well as the comforter. We never made it past the front room. We seen enough to know that we could not stay here. We immediately reached out to the property owners. James and Rachel via phone and no answer. We reached out several times a day during our 3 day stay and they were completely non-existing. Just a recording telling us to email them. We emailed them shortly after arrival and explained what we encountered and all we got was a automated message. We reached out to Booking.com who we booked through and they created the case. They also tried reaching out to them with no success. At this point we requested a refund as we ended up booking another room. A week later still no response besides the automated response; "we will review your request and get back with you soon". This is by far the worst booking experience we have ever had. We snapped a couple of photos of the entryway as we were leaving. I wish I would have taken some interior photos so you could witness what we did. Unfortunately we were too busy trying to book another room before it got too late. Save yourself and your loved ones a headache and find someone else to stay while visiting Virginia. You will thank me later....

Double bed sagged in the middle. Plastic sheet encased the mattress and topper with only a bed sheet on top. Window blinds had to be kept closed for privacy which made the place feel gloomy with the black and white decor. Front appearance was drab and scruffy. The building was a tenement with 4 units without a front entrance door.

The location was perfect, as I wanted to be close enough to the city to walk around on foot. The automated fans inside the apartment were great as well. The whole vibe of the place was just really good!

Everything was top notch for what I payed for. Coming from overseas I could have been very unlucky If anything in the review had been fake. I didn't find any hidden issues and there wasn't a single thing that I didn't like.

Had such a lovely stay here! The host was extremely helpful and accommodating throughout the whole stay! Lovely area too! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back again! 😁
