Naoshima Accommodation Menjuku Ura - Vacation STAY 25944v

Well laid out, spacious, no low ceilings or doorways which is great for westerners. Right next to the bus stop. Light and bright design. The hosts run a nice restaurant downstairs.

Had to put money in to use the washing machine in the apartment, which feels a bit stingy given the cost of a night’s stay. Would also be nice to have some real mugs / glasses rather than tiny paper cups. Some bowls and cutlery would be useful too. It is located over a karaoke bar, so someone could hear noise in the evening. It would be nice if the hosts could help you to access bicycles without having to go to the big village (eg several accommodations nearby have rental bikes for their guests).

It is right in front of the town bus stop. There are also a good onomiyaki restaurant nearby and the ramen restaurant downstairs.

On Friday night, the booming music sound from the karaoke downstairs can be annoying.

Apartment was newly remodeled with nice wood accents and comfortable, but firm, bedding, a twin in each bedroom. Right next to the Tenno-shita bus stop, or a 20 min. walk with doable hill from Naoshima Honmura ferry and the Art Houses. If you like walking, it is wonderful >30 minute slightly hilly walk to the Benesse House Museum and see the art works along the shoreline and breathtaking expansive views of the Seto Inland Sea. Very convenient to have a washer dryer right inside the unit to use for 100 yen per load. Dryer function took over an hour and was still damp (as is the case with most of these washer/dryer combos in Japan), so we hung our clothes on the clothing bar to line dry instead. Bathroom was all new with a deep soaking tub that was heavenly after a day of exploring this amazing island. The couple also run the ramen restaurant downstairs and make big portions of reasonably priced ramen, stir fry, croquettes and more for dinner. The TV plays all the time, so that's not relaxing. Restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday and most museums on the island (except Benesse) is also closed Mondays. There are also other restaurants that you can walk to near the unit.

Unfortunately their is a small Karaoke bar under the unit, so you can hear the thumping of the music at night. I usually wear ear plugs for bed and was happily tired from a full day of walking, so I didn't have any problem sleeping. The microwave and fridge were convenient, but there are no plates or eating utensils, so plan ahead. Hot water kettle and coffee packets (no tea) provided but only very small paper cups to drink from. The apartment is basic, but nicely and newly remodeled that it is a excellent bargain compared to other options in the island.

The accommodation was perfectly positioned for the galleries and what we wanted to do. The staff were very welcoming & extremely helpful.

Beautiful clean and modern apartment. Location good with our own car and free parking. Ramen noodle shop next door was excellent. The owner was friendly and helpful.

The beds were like sleeping on concrete.

Clean and separate rooms. Close to the museum but far from port.

Food options very limited. Host was not very nice. Narrow steep stairs to enter.
