Appartement Authentique à la Médina de Fès - À Deux Pas de Bab Bou Jeloud & des Souks

La pozione era ottima a pochi metri dalla porta blu. Il proprietario si è dimostrato molto accogliente, organizzandoci anche un’attività serale con una guida che parlava perfettamente italiano.

We were hesitating between this apartment and another one right in the medina (for "authentic" Moroccan housing). After experiencing the "authentic Morocco heat" :) in a dar in Chefcheoun, we were all happy that we chosen this well renovated modern apartment with the Moroccan touch, with air con. (The decor was not any less "Moroccan" from the one we stayed in Chefcheoun.) The apartment has 2 rooms with aircon, no aircon in one room and the living room, but still comfortable. We didn't really use the kitchen, but appreciated the washing machine and clothes lines. Small package of washing powder is like 5 dh (and good for many loads). We used our own toileteries, but I think only hand soap was provided in the bathroom. Owner was the friendliest we met during our months long road trip. Safe Parking almost right by the apartment for 60dh per day. Location right by the blue gate, we feel very safe (we didn't feel unsafe at all places we went in Morocco) and convenience. There are basically 2 main alleys in the medina. We followed the gps and had no problem to walk until the tannery and madrasa. Nobody "harassed" us, as I read it some where.

Very central location. The size of the property for the price.

We visited in January. The 2 bedrooms near the street had heating, the main bedroom and the lounge did not. Those rooms need some form of heating in the winter. The beds had a throw and not quilts. The kitchen had no sharp knife, corkscrew or can opener. These are only minor things that can be easily remedied. The beds are very firm which may not suit everyone.

This apartment in a 3-floor building is located as close to the Blue Gate of the Medina as you can imagine. It's very convenient for visiting the Fes Medina (just a 2-minute walk) while staying outside the hustle and bustle of the old city's narrow streets. We paid 50 MAD for a petit taxi ride from the train station to the apartment, which was quick (10 min) and affordable. Upper Apartment (3rd Floor): • Rooms: 2 rooms, each with 2 separate beds. • Amenities: o Air conditioning units in each room. o Washing machine. o Gas stove (no microwave). o Small kitchen area with a table. o Separate toilet and shower. • Additional Notes: o Plumbing is slightly outdated but works fine. o A TV is available in one of the rooms. o WiFi works well. o Hot water is available with good pressure. .... Lower Apartment (2nd Floor): • Rooms: 3 bedrooms: - 2 bedrooms, each with 2 beds each and air conditioning units. - 1 bedroom with a queen-size bed (located in an inner area with no windows, which may feel hot during summer) without air conditioning unit. o Family room with a TV. o WiFi works well. o Hot water is available with good pressure. • Amenities: o Kitchen with a refrigerator and gas stove (no microwave). o Shared toilet and shower. o Plumbing is in better condition than the upper apartment. • Additional Notes: o We visited in December when the temperature was around 40°F-50°F and didn’t experience any heating issues.

Just a 1-minute walk away, we enjoyed takeout dinners from the nearby restaurant La Cass, which we paired with wine back at the apartment. Wine is easily available in many (though not all) local supermarkets. We also purchased food in the Medina to prepare breakfast in the apartment. Items like eggs, bread, oats, and other essentials are readily available there. Additionally, you can easily find toiletries like toothbrushes, toothpaste, cologne, etc., in the Medina (or any supermarkets). There’s absolutely no need (!) to pack these items in your luggage. Our Experience: We stayed in Fez for four nights. On the first night, only the upper apartment was available due to some unforeseen circumstances. The next day, the owner moved us to the larger apartment we had originally booked. Overall Impressions: Both apartments are in very good condition, and it's clear the owner takes proper care to keep them clean and fully functional. Hints: 1. Bargaining: In the Fes Medina, bargaining is a common and expected practice for most items except food. However, food prices are not negotiable. 2. Pricing Differences: We noticed a slight difference in food prices for locals versus foreigners, with foreigners typically paying a little more.

It was directly outside the old medina so we could walk through it, buy food, and a short walk to see the university and the mosque. Fantastic location.
