Chateau de Woodlawn - Room II - Le Parisienne

The home itself was cozy and the bedroom AC was a lifesaver.

The location wasn’t ideal. We took the bus to downtown once and were advised it wasn’t safe to use public transit in this area, so we relied on Ubers for the rest of the trip. Many drivers canceled after seeing the destination, leaving us waiting for long periods, and those who did pick us up often questioned why we were staying in the neighborhood given its reputation. There was only one bathroom for all guests, and it was frequently occupied, making it difficult to access. On our last day, the water throughout the entire apartment stopped working completely, so we couldn’t shower or even brush our teeth before a long day of travel.

Great value room on a holiday weekend. Even though it’s located on the South Side of Chicago the neighborhood is kept up and we felt safe walking around during the day. We took Uber home at night so can’t comment on neighborhood’s security at night. Easy 14 minute walk to the Green line to get to downtown area. The common area decor was in good taste/comfortable and the bathroom was clean with a fully functional kitchen. The bed’s mattress was also firm and provided a good night’s rest. We would stay here again when we come to Chicago as it’s excellent value.

The kitchen was well equipped and the location was very good, close to an ALDI and to the university.

There was hair on the rugs in the bedroom and the bed comforter had animal hair of some kind. The vent hood was very dirty and the kitchen floor needed to be mopped. Also, you have to share a bathroom with the guests in the other two bedrooms. Fortunately, nobody else was staying there when we did.

The apartment is very comfortable, very well equipped, and very clean. The apartment is located near the University of Chicago: it's only a 20-minute walk. Additionally, it is very well connected to Downtown-Chicago: both the Green and Red lines go there; it’s a 10-minute walk to the Green line and then 20 minutes by subway (i.e. with the Green line). It is really very well situated. The street where the house is located is safe. The area has nice middle-class houses. I walked to the university. In the evenings, I also felt safe. The landlady and landlord, Tracie and Francis, are very, very nice and respond immediately and very competently to any questions that may arise. Thank you very much! I would gladly come back, and I highly recommend this apartment!

Everything was fine!

Property was clean, everything was good there was literally no problem with the property and hosts everything was fine.

Location of the room is horrible. We were 2 international students picking the red line from the downtown and take a walk from 69th and everyone was looking at us, there were broken glass everywhere on the road, people were doing stuff and they was hostile. This is a no go if you don’t have a car that you can drive directly to the property

The apartment is spotless, has everything you need, and you can clearly see the hosts put a lot of care into making it a good experience for the guests. There are Green and Red 'L' train lines close by, in addition to busses. The neighbourhood feels peaceful and safe, even at night. Individual bedrooms are secured by an electronic PIN lock.

Weird, repetitive sounds were coming from the outside for a good part of every evening. I'm not sure what's the source, but it definitely came from a loudspeaker. It wasn't obnoxiously loud, but it could still be heard through a closed window.

Tracye and Francis, were very sweet and helpful hosts, that made you feel at home immediately That also have a very sweet French bulldog Gizelle! The room has good AC, a small fridge and a code lock. There is in the shared kitchen a coffee machine, microwave, etc Also a fun little terrace at the back! We would love to stay there again next time we are in Chicago!

Literally nothing.

This is a HOSTEL and a crappy one at that. They literally gave us the code to someone else’s room and we were able to open it. That is a total security violation and they were not even understanding why we wanted a refund. We did not know this was a hostel especially because the photos conveniently left out the numbered doors. That was not the main reason we wanted a refund though it was because if we had that persons code that had to have ours because our rooms were switched last minute and we got an automated text. We also heard gun shots outside the place so please research the area before you book. It was also 80° in the place with some frat party going on at 11pm. A good price but so not worth it. Invest in a hotel like we did.
