The host Rod Phillip was just a call away. Very friendly. Thank you Rod for the warm welcome. We were a family of 9 and the home accommodated us well. The bedrooms are very spacious. The kitchen well equipped. We'll definitely visit again

"Can not recommend in good faith"

We arrived on time, but the cleaning crew had not completed their tasks, and we had to wait. The agent explained that the previous guest had a party, and the team were still removing alcohol bottles. The agent walked us through the house and pointed out where the glasses/plates/cookware were stored. The gardner was scheduled for Day 2 because of the Christmas holiday. The residence was okay without some restrictions that were not in the listing description. We understand the house is the owners and they can put in place any limitations. The agent explained that the master bedroom and certain cabinets/pantries were owner locked. Other limitations were the smaller cooking utensils and cookware which inhibit accommodating 11 people. The agent did provide a larger pot for cook pup by Day 2. On day 2 we noticed the door handle in the first bathroom was loose and had missing screws. We informed the agent that one guest was locked in the bathroom because the handle disengaged for the striker. By day 3 the handles on both doors to the same bathroom was inoperative and we employed the lock to the opened doors to prevent a guest from being locked in. On day 3 we noticed algae growing in the pool and notified the agent, to their credit had the pool cleaned the next day. On day 5 the algae returned and three of the children developed ear infections. When we left on day 7 the agent was not present to walk us through the house. We called the agent and had a heated discussion with the agent when we called the agent in reference to our deposit. The agent’s claim was our deposit was reduced due to the broken door handles since they had a maintenance inspection completed before our arrival. She also said there were broken glasses and stain sheets/towels.

We are disputing the agent’s claims. 1) the door handles are normal usage with inferior door materials causing the mounting screws to increase their screw holes. The inspector would not have discovered it because the door handles worked properly until day 2. 2) At no time did the agent show us an inventory list of glasses/plates and the agent was not present when we departed. I cast doubt on her claim because we had not broken any glasses but instead use plastic glasses to prevent mishaps. How can the agent honestly say we are responsible for any breakage? Another possibility is the previous guest broke the glasses, and the agent failed to discover it prior to our arrival. 3) We dispute the stains because using white sheets and towels create a situation where stains are more apparent. There are excellent products to remove any stains in white linen. I have experienced were hotels and resorts do not charge extra for bedding mishaps. I do not in good faith recommend this residence as long as this agent is actively involved. This agent became very unprofessional during our discussion of our deposit. More than once the agent told my wife to shut her mouth, even told me for my wife to shut her so this agent can complete her claims against us. Durban is a beautiful city to visit and offers wonderful experiences, however our vacation was tainted with an unprofessional and rude agent who prefers to find any reason to reduce guests’ deposit. I believe this agent encroaches on dishonest business practices.
