The Tucked-away Cottage

The hosts were responsive and helpful, providing videos pre check in to explain access and supporting me when I wanted to change the booking number. The showers in both bathrooms were good and there was a big couch in the lounge area with a good sized fridge freezer and mugs etc for making tea and coffee. Overall it was good value for money but there are some areas where a bit more TLC would really add value.

It wasn't clear until we arrived that the access at the back was quite tricky for anyone with accessibility issues although there are some new grab handles that need to be added to the video information. There is also no handrail on the stairs which are quite steep so wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility issues. The write up does mention poor quality towels although having been in touch the property agent confirms they are working on updating the videos and towels. Pre check in the limited car access is noted but be aware there is little to no turning circle for a mid sized car. As there were 5 of us we had to also rent the lower floor at an extra cost, this is very snug and quite a low ceiling and you do need to make the extra bed up yourself, it would be nicer if that was done and the bedding was ironed. It's these extra touches that would make a difference.

It was clear and spacious. There were two bathrooms. It was well taken care of. Had all of the amenities. The host was friendly and answered any questions. The heating had been left on when we got there so it was nice and warm which was lovely after traveling for so long.

Parking was in a very tight lane - but we were informed of this in advance so we were expecting it!

I would not recommend staying here. The property is advertised as pet friendly, yet after our stay the hosts refused to return our deposit because our dog went to the toilet outside on the grass — something completely normal for any dog and certainly not something you would expect to be penalised for at a pet-friendly property. There were no breed restrictions stated anywhere in the listing or house rules, and we informed them in advance that we were travelling with a dog. We were only at the property from around 9pm until 8am the next morning and spent most of that time asleep. The accommodation was left clean and tidy. I even stripped the bedding before leaving as a courtesy to help the cleaner, which is something I do at every place we stay. Despite this, we were later accused of causing excessive mess and staining, which we strongly dispute. Communication from the host became unpleasant once we questioned the charges, and after providing a polite response disputing the claims, they stopped replying altogether while continuing to hold our deposit. Overall, this felt unfair and very misleading. If you are travelling with pets, especially assuming “pet friendly” means genuinely welcoming pets, I would strongly advise booking elsewhere.

The property was very accessible, comfortable and in a great location, perfect for an overnight family stay.

Very nice quiet lane, stayed there for a rugby match being played at the ACCU Stadium. Great location as 2 pubs on route and numerous fast food outlets and convenience stores, The cottage was very clean and cosy with plenty of seating and a great selection of channels to watch on the TV. All in all a very pleasant stay and would definitely stay again.
