The Old Stables - Self Contained Cottage - Hot Tub and Pool

The location of the premises is great for exploring local attractions such as the city of Salisbury, Stonehenge, and the New Forest, the hosts were welcoming and helpful, the hot tub and pool were available for use, the accommodation was excellent.

Everything was to our satisfaction.

Initial impressions of inside the cottage were good. It was very spacious, bright, had 2 bathrooms, plus a WC & utility area. The owner met us on arrival (dressed scruffily), pleasant enough, showed us round then said they were going away to France skiing the next day. Coffee beans were available for the good coffee machine, but no other provisions. The village pub was pretty good for dinner and nearby Wilton town was excellent.

Closer inspection revealed the kitchen wasn’t at all clean inside the cupboards and drawers and the oven was especially dirty. The fridge/freezer was also in need of a clean. There was no oven glove or kitchen hand towel and all of the mugs were heavily stained and not properly cleaned. The beds were uncomfortable and one of the beds had a sinking mattress with the 2 joined singles not level, leaving an uncomfortable join in the middle of the bed. One of the shower trays was cracked and the shower door rail was unclean, as was the skirting boards in the bathroom. Rough and uneven floor boards run down the hall and through the kitchen & lounge area, which only had the one sofa and 2 hard chairs. Outside was very scruffy and unkempt. The hot tub had been installed up a steep slope and surrounded by rough gravel, with a plastic step stool to aid access, so not easily accessible and not very safe (we didn’t use it). The pool wasn’t available for use. Mice were seen running around the garden which backs onto a steep embankment, overlooked by trains that whizz through day and night. All in all a very ‘Heath Robinson’ set-up.

Secluded peaceful location on lovely grounds. Modern interior with all facilities you need and extremely spacious.

Some issues with the hot tub which were a bit frustrating but barring that, everything else was fantastic.

The Old Stables was the perfect family getaway. The hot weather meant we could make full use of the pool, which was a huge hit with my 5-year-old. The outdoor seating area with a BBQ was a great bonus, and the hot tub with its beautiful surroundings made it even more special. The rooms and grounds are even more spacious than the photos suggest. There are plenty of lovely things to do nearby, and it’s within an hour of the New Forest. We’ll definitely be back.

We were there for a week, unfortunately the weather let us down to let us take full advantage of the pool.. Great for site seeing and take advantage of any discounts offered by booking.com The beds were very comfy.

Lots of space, the owners were very helpful and friendly, and on site for anything we needed. The pool and hot tub were great! And the kids loved the large gardens to run around in!
