"Schoolhouse #11 provided a cozy but roomy hideaway to celebrate a special birthday in the mountains"

10.0

There's so much to like about Schoolhouse #11 that it's hard to know where to start. It's a charming space, actually a renovated one-room schoolhouse. The exterior is even painted red. There's plenty of room to spread out, and the decor is very thoughtful: clean, simple lines with distinctive touches, a very comfortable bed, a great, large, sectional couch, and a modern, super-clean shower with rain spout and hand-held options. The host left us some ground coffee and half-and half, bottles of Saratoga sparkling water, some apples and a bowl of peppermints, and plenty of literature about the surrounding area--these small details made us feel special. We were a little concerned about the heating before we went up, as we both like to be warm and cozy and it was a winter stay; but we had no problems at all. The place is heated by a gas fireplace that really keeps the place warm (you can set your own temperature), and the hosts left many warm blankets around the unit for supplemental warmth. We didn't need the blankets, but having them there created an extra layer of coziness. The location provides easy access to many of the small towns in the area. We spent some time in both Rosendale and New Paltz, but the property is also close to Kingston, Woodstock and other towns we would have liked to explore. We just didn't have the time to get to them all!

"Cozy, well-maintained home with everything needed for a comfortable stay."

Cozy, well-maintained home with everything needed for a comfortable stay. We truly enjoyed our time here. The town is a charming mountain community, and a visit to nearby Woodstock made the trip even more special. Would happily return!

"Great stay - Host was very communicated. House was clean with modern decor and well furnished."

Prompt communication

The house config makes it hard to remove shoes. Maybe provide a rug or similar to help remove shoes before entering living area

"Superb!!"

10.0

This facility was by far the BEST part of the trip! A lovely place in a quiet area, just outside Kingston, Rhinebeck, High Falls and New Paltz. The host was attentive, providing us with all the info we needed to check in/ out. The amenities & decor were thoughtfully done to address our every need. Fresh fruit & flowers made us smile!! Would highly recommend to all!!

Pleased with the entire experience!!

"Exceeded expectations. In every way."

10.0

Ever stay somewhere and think "Wow, this would make the perfect weekend retreat, I wonder if it would ever come up for sale?" I stayed at one in Florida once, and it's now booked 3 years out. No kidding. This is one of those places. I've stayed at a lot of different locations like this over the years, mostly great, but more and more I seem to find that they have been optimized for the online photos, but don't quite measure up in reality. You know, everything is, well, a bit flimsy in real life. Everything a bit more cramped. The little details: the the towel rail, the faucets you wouldn't actually install in your own home. THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF THAT. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT! It was 100º (see the photo) when my son and I pulled up after a hot motorcycle ride. But Steven had already cranked up the AC, the house was cool and he had thoughtfully left two large, chilled bottles of water.

It was about ~2 miles to walk into the little village for a meal - we were only staying one night, so hadn't brought groceries. That's the flip side of quiet and we knew ahead of time. But see above re the heat. So we weren't going to do that. We were actually able to get an Uber to take us to New Paltz for ~$40. And, more importantly, one to bring us back. So what could have been a negative was actually a positive - there are lots of really great options for dinner. And most people will be arriving by car. You will just need a designated driver. Or, you can Uber.
