Spacious 2 bed maisonette near town, that sleeps 6

The location is approximately 40 min walk to the beach, directly behind a lovely little pub that serves amazing food and some nice cafes for breakfast

Where do I start? It smells like a charity shop or an old people’s home, just fusty and stuffy. The living room furniture consists of 2 small chairs and a small leather sofa. You are lead to believe in the add that the sofa is a bed, this is not the case, there are gymnastics Mats provided for this, extremely hard and terrible for your back, my 16 year old daughter had to sleep on the sofa, which was just as bad. The floor boards in the living room are broken and my dad’s foot got caught in one. The windows are filthy. The hallway has a carpet and floorboard beneath that are broken resulting in an uneven surface to walk on. The kitchen is dated and the crockery was sticky, didn’t use anything. The bathroom is big and bright (also downstairs) but does not have a toilet, this was located in a small cupboard in the hallway and smelled terrible. We had previous guests dirty linen in the basket in the bathroom. Going upstairs the dust on the banisters and skirting boards was thick and the wallpaper was peeling off from damp. The master bedroom was nice, decent size again the windows were filthy, when we checked the bedding it too was filthy with stains and so many long black hairs!! My mum refused to sleep in it and slept fully clothed on top of the sheets. The other bedroom is a twin consisting of 1 single bed and a small metal camp bed that was unstable. The bedding was again dirty and there were so many hairs it was disgusting, I also slept fully clothed. The window in this bedroom has no lock and no safety feature resulting in the window opening completely, should a child be in this room they could fall out easily. Under the stairs there is the exposed fuse board with exposed wires, at knee height! Once again if a child was to go near this- very dangerous and definitely not legal. I traveled with my parents and my daughter as we were moving my eldest daughter into her university accommodation, this was thankfully just a bed for the night but none of us slept well.

This house is comfortable and clean, it’s not a luxurious place and it doesn’t claim to be. It’s reasonably priced, there is a big Sainsbury’s a short walk away to park (paid) and plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area. The host lives downstairs, he seems to be really nice. We didn’t have any issues and slept very well.

The property could use some decorating, but it’s perfectly fit for purpose! Maybe add a tv in the living room 😊

The location was good, easy access to town on the bus and adequate parking. The beds were comfy and the master bed a good size. The property is spacious and has been adequately if cheaply fitted out. The owner called to chat about our problems.

The finish is fairly poor and basic, giving the place a rather disheveled and run down feel. For example, the smear of yellow expanding insulation on the wall by the door, the water damaged wallpaper on the stairs, the exposed electrics under the steep stairs. i.e. absolutely not suitable for parents with young children, unless you want to lock them in a room. The worst part was the cold. The living room fireplace has been closed off with a piece of hardboard, but the chimney is not capped, so the hardboard rattles back and forth with the wind. This will also lose loads of heat. The thermostat was set and locked to 16.5 or 17 degrees. This is counter to WHO and Govt health guidance of a minimum healthy indoor temperature of 18. The owner tried to give some bogus excuse that this was not the set temp, but the indoor temp in the corridor, and the temp could be manually adjusted. Working in the energy industry for 25 years, I know how to set a thermostat! Then the owner claimed that the boiler must be having an issue and it has never happened before. However, they have clearly had this issue before as they let slip in their messages that that they had said similar things before to other guests. The owner is clearly trying to scrimp on energy bills at the cost of guest comfort. From the exposed electrics under the stairs I believe the energy supplier is ecotricity, so low carbon electricity, as such I'd recommend taking a big expensive to run electric fan heater or two so you can keep warm.

Does not have a sofa bed as stated. Bed sheets dirty with sick and hair in them. Did not stay the night.

Lovely, clean accommodation. Very centrally located for shops and restaurants.

The maisonette was ideal for staying over in Brighton at a reasonable cost. There are two bedrooms and the whole place is both comfortable enough and very clean. The owner is friendly and good to deal with. Ideal!
