"The rooms are just not worth the money and the £250 deposit – don't stay here."

1.0

The information given is not true - the rooms are not as described . They do not have a private kitchen. The 'kitchenette' is a cheaply made wardrobe with a sink in it and a fridge. There is a hob, but they have all been decommissioned 'on health and safety grounds' . So the owners installed them all and then were told they were unsafe and couldn't be used. So it's an individual room with access to a shared kitchen. When I put this to the owner he admitted this, but still wouldn't accept that the information given was false and misleading. The standard is just not up to being called 'Deluxe' or 'Superior'. There were broken facilities, it wasn't clean or welcoming.Stairs filthy with plaster and mess. When we arrived a 'kitchenette' drawer came apart the moment we touched it. The windows are draughty – the lighting is horrible, bright overhead bulbs 'like a hospital' as my partner put it. On our 2nd night the toilet broke, the cistern constantly running water back into the bowl, making a noise all night and disturbing our sleep. As it was a weekend they claimed they were 'unable to get the parts'. They offered us an alternative room, but with all the problems I asked too for a reduction in price. They refused this. At one point the owner claimed the toilet was still functional so it wasn't urgent or really 'broken'. They offered me a choice between changing room ( absolutely necessary) OR a refund. Under the Consumer Goods Act 2015 if a product or services ( includes hotel accommodation) is not as described, is faulty or not fit for purpose you are entitled to a refund . The Sales of Goods Act covers similar ground and protects guests, even where there's a third party involved .This case meets two of these criteria so some financial compensation should have been offered.
