"Great to be back at the Brig and Barrel - a really nice hotel!"

9.0

Clean, comfortable, great food and service!

The only problem was the muggy heat the first week I stayed there. I opened the window but the seagulls kept me awake. I put the tall fan on thereafter but of course it was quite noisy! Hard to know what the solution could be! Maybe air vents in the window?

"Night ruined by noisy neighbour"

2.0

The staff were friendly when checking in and the room was fine.

The hotel pre se was not the issue. My gripe was the man who was put in the room next to me who made very loud Tourettes type shouts every 15 minutes or so. I went down to the bar at 11 45 and barman knew who I was talking about. He started typing into his phone and I assumed something was being done. By 1am I realised nothing had been done and all the staff were away. The neighbour was now often leaving his room (to go to the toilet presumably) and the frequent thumping of doors (they close very noisily) was horrendous. By 2am I realised I was not getting any sleep and decided to leave. I was lucky in respect that I had my friend's cottage about three hours drive away. I reckoned it was safer driving at night after 2 hours of no sleep rather than after 8 hours in the morning. I left a note explaining my decision. The most damning criticism is that nobody has bothered to phone and apologise. This is now 5 days later. I phoned up the next day and was given a sort of apology and told that "yes he does that when he's drunk" and that the neighbour was re-roomed upstairs. That's all and good but didn't help me. For £70 I had a shower and got to lie on a bed for a few hours. Much more importantly I lost out on 6 hours of exploring the Moray coast next day which was the main point of my visit. This man was a known guest and was still put in with others which I find incredible given his history.

They need to be clearer that bathrooms are separate to the bedrooms.

Staff very welcoming, food good, very clean and tidy, spotless

Just the shower, freezing at night, freezing in the morning, would not stop me staying here again.

The breakfast was absolutely great. The Staff has been very friendly

The food except the Breakfast tastes like out of the microwave. We had to ask for the missing towels. The bed was promised a king-size, has been 1,40 m.
