Casa da Mouta - Douro Valley

Everything! The outdoor area was phenomenal, with the most breathtaking views. The hosts have thought of everything, and were so generous with supplies and thoughtful touches, including arranging a birthday cake for a 30th birthday during our visit. We could not recommend Casa Da Mouta enough and hope to return again in the future. The hosts were also super helpful with advice about food shopping, taxis and a fantastic vineyard tour with BAMBUTI (would definitely recommend!).

João was a wonderful host and the property was even more beautiful than the pictures. He thought of everything and we had anything we could possibly need. There were so many thoughtful touches such as the welcome charcuterie and wine to the bread delivered each morning. The view was also breathtaking and the pictures do not do it justice. Would definitely love to come back and stay for longer.

Super quiet and isolated cute little house with gorgeous views. Huge covered outdoor area with a barbecue and large pool. I would recommend to bring all your food and groceries with you, so you do not need to leave the grounds.

Bathroom would need some update maintenance.

Casa da Mouta is a private vacation villa located on a hillside high above the Douro. You enter through a private gate and are given the code to the gate and front door prior to check-in. The property is lovely, with a number of outdoor areas (pool, dining areas, barbecue areas, and lawn) from which to enjoy the view of the Douro river and the terraced vineyards on the other side of the river. There are mature fruit trees and lovely plants on the property around the stone vacation home. The home is well equipped with comfortable beds, a deluxe shower, and all one can need in the kitchen. Though we didn't use them, there's a large television, DVDs, and games for the television. The property, and the friendliness of the host, far exceeded our expectations. The property is one of the best in which we've stayed. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

This was our second visit in two years, and we stayed for a longer time as we loved it so much on our first trip last year ,and when we arrived it felt like coming home. Unlike a lot of holiday places which can feel impersonal, you can tell that this is a much loved home and it feels truly comfortable and relaxing. The welcome pack with a platter and the homemade wine was great. The location is idyllic without feeling isolated and view is to die for. We spent many a day just sitting in the outdoor area by the pool doing barbecues and drinking wine. The hosts were very communicative and helpful and provided us with a mid stay cleaning and extra towels. There are a number of restaurants and places around which have traditional local food and drink. The big plus here is that it is not overcrowded with tourists and you get a great feel for the rural traditional life. Quinta Covela, which is just a stone's throw away is a must visit and the tour and wine tasting feels exclusive and personal and the wines are amazing of course! We visited the little restaurant in Caldas do Aregos called Dona Maria which had amazing barbecued dishes and helpful friendly staff. There were a number of festivals happening in the villages around and you can hear the sounds of the music across the valley which adds to the atomosphere of the place without being noisy and intrusive. It felt like we were part of the festivities from our own private place :). We will be back again as this is now a regular feature on our yearly holiday calendar!

Magic ... we should have stayed for a week. Impossible to describe the beauty of the property - orange trees laden with fruit, lemons, a vineyard, dazzling flowers, a magnificent infinity pool, the view, the view, the view. This is a "destination" property - stay for a week, walk, cycle, swim, soak in the views ... We've traveled extensively and can say, without a doubt, this was the best accommodation we've ever stayed at.
