This is a very special place. Nice touches like culturally significant wallpaper and quality bedding. Useful facilities including washing machine, drinking water in the fridge. A clean, friendly, family-run hotel in a quiet location close to everything.

Close to temples you are wanting to see and only a short bus ride to the main station or other sights around Kyoto. The "hill" people talk of is very gentle and not too taxing, even with heavy luggage. Room is big for japan and spotlessly clean. Quiet neighborhood in the evening.

The reception is not manned and I only saw the owner on arrival. However they are easily reachable by booking.com or whatsapp. The lights from the TV and Wifi box are always on and are bright when the main lights are off. It would be nice to cover these so the room is completely dark for sleeping as these are quite bright. My room lock was simple and directly linked to the room number so it did not feel 100% secure, could easily be guessed in my opinion. Big lack of local restaurants nearby, had to travel to find food places.
