Wastwater Cottage on The Big "W" Ranch

Absolutely nothing.

Everything! This property is a scam! We didn’t even end up staying! We were in the property 10 minutes and still the owner refused a refund. He is rude! Very very aggressive, to the point we had to leave after calling him as we were scared! The property was like a prison on arrival. Nothing that was stated when we booked it. A huge handbook of rules was left for us as well as sent to us on our way to the property. Basically you can breathe that’s it! The place was absolutely freezing. No thermostat in sight. We contacted the owner to ask him to turn up the heating as the handbook said it costs him £30 a day to turn the heating up and times are hard. He lied on the phone and said the heating was on. The radiators were freezing as was the property. He got really angry when we said we couldn’t stay in those conditions. After phoning booking.com to say we would be leaving as we were not only freezing we now felt scared. They reassured us that if we weren’t to stay he would refund us - which he still refused to do. He then told booking.com that we rang him in actual fact to say more people were staying - another lie. He waited until hours after we had left to take a thermostat over and turn the heating up until it was a comfortable temp and then send that to booking.com. I have never ever ever ever in my life been spoken to how that man spoke to me. He also told me if he was to turn the heating up I’d be responsible for him going under by the end of the year. Put it this way we drove a 4 hour drive home instead of staying, a drive we had already done in the morning. Also massive hill and nightmare to get to. Avoid at all costs if you want to actually enjoy yourself and not be abused.

Perfect quiet location, the cottages were just what we were looking for. The hosts just left us too it.

The room could have been a little warmer as the weather wasn't the best so was quiet chilly and difficult to dry wet clothing. Heating was on timer which meant it only came on for a couple hours in the morning and in the evening. We understand utilities are expensive but would prefer to pay a little more to cover this cost......property would benefit from a runner rather than door mat as it was quiet small and with the rules of the property it made it difficult when entering the cottage in outdoor shoes....especially after a day hiking in the mud and rain...or provide a proper sweeping brush and mop to clean up after yourself, which we would not mind doing. 🙂

Comfy with incredible scenic views

Can hear room above when they are moving around and speaking loudly. Owners do ask for peace after 10pm but they cannot control everything their customers do.

Clean and private property giving great access to Scaffell Pike and other walks around the lake district. Perfect stay for our group of three!

Nothing

Good location, got all the things you need in the place. Lovely bathroom, spacious enough. Everything works fine, nothing is damaged, all good quality things.

Can not really think of anything. - Parking was a bit tight, however I had a big saloon, so it does make sense. Do have to be careful coming uphill towards the cottage at night as roads are very narrow, however it seems no one in the past had an issue, and I’d visit again for sure.

i liked leaving

Horrible host made us clean up ourselves because his cleaner couldn't get up the icy hill which he never warned me about. Then lied on arrival saying he couldn't get in touch with us to let us know his cleaner wasn't around while he was out of the country eventhoigh we spoke a few hours prior and he knew i was coming from glasgow so would be tired on arrival. Sort of weak male who takes advantage of the weak more passive people. Disgusting state of sheets in the laundry room to clean up, shocking attitude towards myself and my partner, very weird site, shocking heating system with just 1 radiator that turns on and off so the room gets freezing, it's not even a bungalow, all the postive reviews are FAKE and simply a holiday from hell experience here.
