The accommodation is a converted garage, underneath a house, so the ceiling is very low. There are people living above you, whom you can hear moving about and using the bathroom. There are NO windows in the bathroom, kitchen/lounge/dining/laundry area.. all in one small space, so stuffy, unless you leave the only outside door, open. The laundry is a washing machine only. The washing machine is so loud, you cant talk above it. The furniture looks like its all second hand, or out of an older person's decease estate, and one lounge chair is super uncomfortable to sit in. The second bedroom is very small, especially for two adults. Overall, rather a depressing place to stay, not bright and open like other places. We decided to leave a day early for personal reasons, but were glad we didnt have to stay another night.

The main bed is huge and comfortable and the shower was good. It was a little dark as not much natural light in main area

The motion sensor lights along the side/entrance could be set to stay on a minute or two longer.

The 2-bedroom flat, a remodeled garage/laundry room, is on the ground floor of the host’s home in a quiet residential neighborhood. It’s easy to park (driveway privileges). Morning sunlight streams through the living room glass door and the bedroom windows. In the afternoon, sunlight comes from the windowed wall facing the driveway (photo). The walls of the kitchen, bathroom and hallway do not have windows as the unit is built into a hill. I used the two portable fans to increase the airflow in the unit. Washing machine works well, and there’s a large rack for drying clothes. I did not meet the host (but had pleasant text exchanges) so there is considerable privacy even though the family lives upstairs. There is a great bakery Guidough’s within ~10 min walking distance. The Redwoods – Whakarewarewa Forest is a short ~15 min drive away (photos) with well-marked walking trails, which I highly recommend.

The pots/pans probably need to be replaced as their nonstick coatings are damaged.
