The town is famous for being the birthplace of San Francesco da Paola, the patron saint of Calabria. The San Francesco Sanctuary is an important pilgrimage destination. The town extends from the coast to the slopes of the Coastal Range. Its historic center has an ancient atmosphere, with historic buildings and churches, and is well connected to the inner part of Calabria, making it easy to reach the Sila plateau, located in the heart of Calabria and divided into three areas: Sila Greca: The northernmost part, characterized by ancient settlements and traditions linked to Magna Graecia. Sila Grande: The central area, with the highest peaks, extensive forests, and important lakes such as Cecita and Arvo. Sila Piccola: The southern part, with gentler hills and rich biodiversity. The beach is just 1640 feet away and is equipped with beach resorts. Lamezia Terme International Airport is located 25 mi away. Host very helpful. Well equipped and comfortable. Couldn't be more close to the station and 5 minutes from a beautiful beach. A swim was a bonus !

If you are a rail traveler, this is a very good base to explore Calabria. It is 2 min from the station and has very good widows, so no noice at all. The kitchen has all the basics and bathroom as well, even if the shower is a bit on the small side 😆. 2 coffee shops are near, and a pizza place, a supermarket, is a 12 min walk. I stayed 9 days and took each day a train to a different town to explore for 2 3 hours and had lunch there. Was fun with an Eurail pass best thing to have a base.

"Paola Handy Position"

Had lots of lovely little touches like food and milk etc which is unusual in Italy. Wonderfully equipped kitchen and very spacious. Two toilets a laundry and great communication and assistance when we arrived. The railway is only a few minutes away.

They advertise that they dont have wifi but we think it would be a good inclusion. Paola itself was very quiet near the hotel and there were few options to eat (on a Monday night)
