JP Retreat Family Holiday Caravan, West Sands

Once we found the caravan it was in a suitable location but we could have done with having better directions, and possible a site map as there are 2,000 caravans on the site. The park itself has plenty of facilities, mainly for the children which was a prime objective.

The caravan itself had a number of issues, which we have subsequently raised with the owners, and provided photographs. These comprised thistles growing up through the Verandah steps, a dirty Verandah and dirty chairs on it, unclean cooking utensils and crockery, a broken oven, rusty radiators in the bathroom, which also had an undiscovered bad smell in it, and toilet, broken cupboard, a bed in the main bedroom with springs sticking up from the mattress, a television not working properly because the aerial is broken and other broken items. The owner has replied that this is a "value" caravan, implying that one should not expect perfection. The price did not seem to indicate this, nor was there any suggestion when it was booked, and this should be no reason for lack of cleanliness or broken items. No apology has been received from the owner for things which were not right.

The property was in a good location for a base to get to all facilities at the Holiday park. It was clean and had all the basics needed for a short stay. Having board games in the property is a nice touch for when the weather is not so good outside.
