Proximity to the slow boat pier was perfect, although irrelevant in our case as our operator was picking us up. Angela was the fount of all knowledge when it came to pointing us in the right direction and she was always smiling and happy. Excellent English speaker. The description of the guesthouse provided by Nok was spot on, it was basic but very clean and comfortable and included some thoughtful touches like a sewing kit in the room. WiFi was good and the beds were surprisingly comfortable ( not hard mattresses which seems common here in Laos and also Thailand).

When we saw that earplugs were provided we guessed we might not be in for a peaceful night. There was a pack of dogs whose howling woke us up a few times during our first night’s stay and a couple of times the second night. No fault, of course, of the guest house and no doubt others in nearby properties were also disturbed but it was frustrating. The walk to the town and restaurants took us about 15 minutes which was fine. On a personal level we felt that this guest house was perfect for an overnight stay before catching the slow boat. We stayed 2 nights and felt we could have enjoyed a bit more outdoor space as there wasn’t much going on in the evenings apart from a meal out so spent more time in our room. I would certainly recommend this guest house but if we returned for a longer stay I would consider our options carefully.
