The Beacon - Luxe Studio Unit

Location was great; bed was very comfortable; room was spacious.

It was not clear from booking that the balcony would be a shared balcony with no partition and with windows from other apartments looking down into our room when the curtains were open. It was impossible to get natural light into the room and/or utilise the balcony without compromising privacy. This is a significant issue with the room which should be advertised clearly.

Room had a lovely view of the lake, walking distance to town and a toasty warm room.

Good location and an easy walk into town, but that's where the positives end.

This is not luxe, not an apartment and definitely not the advertised 45sqm. I'd say it was more like 30sqm max and it just a standard hotel room. The decor and furniture are old and dated and the balcony is shared and filthy and lacks privacy with three neighbours overlooking it. The furniture layout doesn't work and there is no way to comfortably watch the small and cheap TV placed on a chest of drawers that look to be straight out of an op shop (or due to go there). The bedhead right next to the door meant we heard other guests in the hallway and the constant 'ding' of the lifts coming and going, plus neighbours knocking on the door to the shared hallway next door at all hours of the night. The kitchenette was tiny and awkward and didn't even have a sink. Yet the sign in the room required us to wash and put away our dirty dishes before we left - so I guess the dishes we used were only as clean as the last guests who had to wash them in the bathroom basin where they cleaned their teeth - definitely NOT LUXE! The fridge was so small that we struggled to fit in even a few basic items such as milk, wine and cold drinks. There is no air-con as advertised - only a cheap pedestal fan. For over $300 per night, we expected more.

Dark room no windows only a door onto a shared balcony? did not say anywhere in the description the balcony was shared, it was also dirty and I had to ask for it to be cleaned. Description says ‘air conditioned’ it was not. one pedestal fan and a broken tower cooler fan which had a broken plug so had to ask for it to be replaced. Furniture is very dated and certainly would not call this ‘luxury accommodation’. also the cheapest smallest tv you could find? no matching wine glasses, coffee pods packet was open and half empty? just very poor attention to detail and although my complaints were attended to promptly I should not have had to ask when paying over $300 a night? Also charged an additional cleaning fee but in the room there’s a sign asking you to do your own dishes before you leave, really? This is not luxury accommodation.

The hotel room was Average ! Had to request fresh towels in day 3! The bed linen was average , the mattress protector was ineffectual and the pillows were old musty and gross !!

I liked the location, also the property was clean and had everything I needed, the bathroom facilities were great, the value for money on this apartment was great. Did I mention the location!!! The ease of contact with the property company looking after the suite was great, the information supplied on how to access the room and the keys was good. The Peppers Beacon hotel staff are also very helpful even though they don't look after this apartment. Received a nice SMS at the end of my stay after check out to thank me for leaving the property clean and in tact which was well received by me. Easy to book initially. Did I mention the location. I stayed in one other accommodation location in Queenstown, but this apartment was 10x better than the second location, and I wished I had booked it for longer. Thanks for a brilliant stay.

The dial key pad was a little hard to use (as I have longer nails) where the pull down button to pull open was a bit difficult for me. Perhaps a push button option?
