We loved everything! 10 reasons to go to Le Balze in Fontisterni in the Tuscan mountains. 1-The owners! Tom and Nicky are the best hosts. Their hospitality and kindness are second to none. 2-The views. Wherever you look you will see the most amazing mountains. 3-The food. Tom is an incredible chef and everything is prepared fresh with the best ingredients. His wild boar sauce is THE most delicious! 4-The location. Le Balze is very close to the train station, and by car you can reach Florence in just 45 minutes and Arezzo and other beautiful towns in about an hour. 5-The accommodation. We stayed in their ground floor studio which is disabled accessible, with a very comfortable bed and with air condition. They have another two rooms which all together can accommodate 8 people comfortably. 6- Their olive oil. As an olive oil working farm you can get the most delicious olive oil, so delicate yet flavoursome. We bought quite a few bottles to share with our friends. 7-The rustic charm. Their house is over 400 years old, yet it has lots of modern comforts. It felt like such a homely stay. 8- The drive. Getting there by taking the scenic route will bring you lots of surprises and amazing views of the river, castles and lovely little Tuscan towns. 9-The peace and quiet. We slept like babies and felt so rested. The bed was so comfy! 10-The surrounding nature. The birds singing, crickets chirping and the magical fireflies make it such a special place. Bonus: Their swimming pool! The perfect place to cool down after a day of sightseeing.

We had such a great time at Tom's place. Tom and his family are absolutely lovely and ensure that you have an amazing stay. The studio is well equipped, in a beautiful property, surrounded by olive trees. You can reach out to Florence city center in less than 30min with the train, which is really convenient. You have both the advantages of the countryside and the proximity with Florence. You definitely need to try Tom's food, he is a great cook and adapt himself to your diet (his veggie food is amazing). We were quite sad to leave Le Balze after a week and really hope to be back one day. Grazzie Tom, Nikky, Sammy and Pikka!

Located in the middle of beautiful green Tuscan countryside (with mostly Olive trees around) and near Florence and other Tuscan highlights, „Le Balze di Fontisterni“ is the perfect place for all who are searching „Dolce far niente“ far away from hectic tourism. The apartment is part of a old house full of charm and character and is equipped with everything you need for your stay. Tom is an excellent host with just the perfect blend of being extremely helpful and always approachable and never being intrusive at the same time.

It‘s almost impossible to find something negatively, if you really would like to find something: the house itself is not extremely soundproofed (which can not expected in such an old house).
