"Stunning, historic surroundings; disappointing accommodation, no doubt cosier in the fireman's day."

3.0

The location is fantastic. Very central, yet stunningly scenic, and with wonderful walks on the doorstep.

The accommodation was very disappointing, and did not do justice to the beautiful surroundings. It was very bare and quite unwelcoming. The decorations consisted mainly of plastic plants and empty booze bottles. The duvets were cheap and grubby, and the pans were cheap and losing their nonstick, so probably a health hazard. There were no carpets or rugs except in one bedroom, so the floor was bare and cold. The stairs were bare. The walls and woodwork were mainly a cheap, harsh white. The "white" towels were covered with yellow stains. Although as soon as we arrived we sent an email saying we had difficulty with the wifi, we didn't get any reply. The cottage would have been more welcoming and cosy in the days of the old fireman.
