"Brilliant venue"

10.0

Our 12 strong group of family and friends don't have anything but good things to say about this place. We wanted a house in the countryside with great views that wasn't too close to any neighbours as we are a bit loud after a few whiskeys and didn't want to upset anyone. We spent most of our time in the massive kitchen or sitting by the log burner outside. House was clean, the kitchen well stocked and everything worked. The host Lynn came to see if we were settled and answer any questions shortly after arrival. We were then left to enjoy the place and the one time we did need Lynn around Sat lunchtime I messaged her and then she replied, came on site and sorted it all in about the space of 5 minutes. Would recommend this place to anyone I know and there's a good chance we will try to come back one day.

"A very pleasant and enjoyable stay in a lovely house in a great location."

10.0

As others have said, Great Alder House is a fantastic place to stay. The house is lovely (as well as huge), and is located in superb countryside; nestled beneath the Clwydian mountain range, which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The nearest town is Ruthin which is a very attractive town with all the amenities you might need. It’s about 12 minutes’ drive away, admittedly down slightly bumpy country lanes! There are a number of enjoyable and achievable walks near the house. Being a pensioner I left these to the younger people in the party, preferring to visit the pub, of which a few are reasonably accessible to the house. The White Horse does great food, and we particular liked the Golden Lion, which has great beer and very hospitable hosts. There are lots of places to visit within a reasonable drive, including Llangollen, Denbigh, Bala and the north coast. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to do – for example we went white water rafting at Bala which was a lot of fun. People of a certain age should visit the 1950s Museum in Denbigh which was brilliant and eccentric. The house itself contains everything you might need. It’s over 200 years old and retains its character and foibles. However there is a large modernised kitchen-diner at the heart of the house - the island fitting being almost as big as some people’s houses! The hosts live nearby but seemed quite chilled and happy to leave the guests to their own enjoyment. However they are readily available if anything goes wrong. We managed to lock ourselves out on one occasion, but this was quickly resolved. To conclude, everyone in our party really enjoyed the holiday and would happily return.

Sleeping accomodation was mostly in double beds which was slightly problemmatic for us (eg mothers and daughters each having double rooms to themselves). A higher number of single beds would have given more flexibilty. The house is a bit hard to find - not really a problem though. Just look out for the Welsh name rather than the English one.

"A beautiful, memorable Home with friendly, attentive Hosts."

10.0

Lovely, quiet, picturesque location! The house is absolutely stunning, we were gobsmacked walking in to see how Grand and big it was! The house was spotlessly clean and well equipped facilities wise. The bathrooms are spectacular and each bedroom is beautifully decorated with unique character for each. The kitchen is the showstopper, perfect for gatherings and it's where we spent all of our night. The house is very spacious and you won't feel on top of each other, the grounds are that big we didn't have time to see everything! The host checked in with me before, during and after our stay to check that there wasn't anything we needed, I felt she was very welcoming and attentive. Thank you so much, the best place I have ever stayed in! We will be back.

Absolutely nothing that we disliked.

"Fabulous find in Ruthin"

10.0

Beautiful house, amazing views. There is plenty of space for a large family holiday. We all had a fantastic time, and we ranged in age from 20 to 83. Nothing was too much trouble. Anything we needed was sorted straight away, perfect hosts. Every detail has been thought of. There is plenty of seating both inside and out. We would definitely book again.
