"Fantastic. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to get into the more remote areas of Elan Valley."

Fantastic location, comfortable, clean, all necessary amenities. A god-send at the end of a hugely challenging day of bikepacking.

Nothing.

"Cold and damp accommodation in October."

3.0

The location was amazing with a lovely view. The accommodation is a group of three restored old stone buildings in a rural location. Close to the Claerwen Reservoir in the beautiful Elan Valley. There was parking available. The stream was lovely and calming. The stone buildings had been well restored and looked attractive.

The room I stayed in was called Daffodil and it has no heating of any kind. It has no radiators or a wood-burning stove. Room smelt very damp on arrival. I understand it is off-grid but there was a large generator on site, multiple solar panels and inverter on the adjacent building and a gas boiler with commercial-size gas bottles. There are electric lights, electric sockets and alarms in the room so I don't understand why no source of heating was provided. I was informed in multiple emails that there was no WIFI or mobile phone signal but not that there was no heating. I booked through Booking.com. When I arrived the heating and hot water in the main building with the kitchen and toilets were not working. The main building was very cold. There are radiators in this room. This meant I arrived cold and wet and could not have a shower or get warm. The wood-burning stove would not light because the timber logs and newspaper provided were very damp. I went to bed and had a very difficult cold night. I was by myself. I contacted the Elan Valley staff in the morning for assistance. They sent someone to check the gas the next day but did not fix the heating or hot water in the kitchen or toilet/shower block. Staff said they would send an engineer by Friday afternoon. I had arrived on Wednesday. I bought dry kindling, two packets of fire lighters and dry matches. I managed to get the damp logs to light in the stove with some effort and a lot of firelighters. I then managed to get the radiators and hot water to work in the kitchen myself but the alarms kept going off with the power turning off and then resetting when the generator started. I rang Elan Valley Trust staff again and told them that I had managed to get the heating to work but there was an issue with the system. On Friday no engineer turned up as promised to fix the system. It was impossible to sleep on Friday night because the beeping alarms kept going off. The 3-day stay was cold and damp.

Beautiful location

More hardstanding for parking seriously required, preferably for larger vehicles like a van or minibus - considering the two properties between them can accommodate 21 people there was only room for 3-4 cars. The only available hardstanding was in use by the guests who had booked the longhouse, leaving us with nowhere to park our van safely. This caused us to get stuck on the track on our way out as the wheel sank into a rotten tree stump at ground level. Of course with no phone signal available it was impossible to call the AA - not a good situation to be in. Luckily the guests in the longhouse helped jack up the van and tow it out but we would not stay here again unless more parking were available.

"Absolutely stunning and I think we will be back"

10.0

Loved that we were the only ones there and the location was just stunning. Sat in the kitchen as a family and cooked a curry while playing board games with the log fire on.

No that we didn’t like it but when we got there the fire alarms were going off and we didn’t know what to do. Luckily I found the system and in a bag were some keys. I found out how to silence and reset it using the keys.

"Welsh Adventure"

7.0

It was a beautiful setting and I was having a wow factor constantly in my way there. Room was comfy and what I expected

The weather really put a downer on it for me. I got soaked and so did my dog which made the night (with no means to heat the room) very damp and cold. I'd brought a pizza with me but the oven wasn't working but I grilled it instead which wasn't ideal. The large gate that is half way up to the property was tricky for me and the wind blew it onto the front of my van so when I left I got somebody from the other party who was staying to hold it open and then close it again as I'm afraid it was so heavy and the wind was strong but on another occasion this place would be spectacular
