Lyra - Chic Urban Apartment living in the heart of Cape Town

The location was in the city centre and easy to commute. Uber was extremely fast because of the central location. However, it was close to a very rough and unsafe area (i.e. Long Street) where there were several homeless people and drug addicts making it impossible to walk after the sunset or late afternoon. Taxi drivers had to take us outside the building's main entrance and wait for us until we got in.

The flat was extremely expensive for the SA standards providing us with very basics. The condition of the carpet, sofa, cushions and chairs was disgusting. They were full of stains and dirt and smelled bad. There was no cleaning included in the price. We had to pay for housekeeping which most of the time was below average (e.g. the cleaners did not know how to use the washing machine and detergent. We found out that they were washing our towels and sheets in warm water only. We had to buy all laundry and dishwashing supplies as well as all cleaning and toilet items and show them how to use the washing capsules. We went during the SA winter period. There was continuous rain for almost 2 weeks. Water was leaking from the ceiling and crawling down the walls in my room. I took pictures and informed the management via Kudzai. I asked them whether the leak could be fixed or whether I could move into another flat owned by the same management. Their answer was negative to both requests. They only brought large towels laying them on the floor to prevent flooding! I found it infuriating.... to say the least! In addition, my girlfriend was bitten in the eye by insects - probably linen infested with bed bugs. We sought medical advice and the eyelid infection was treated with Abx and steroids. When we informed Kudzai she arranged for some of the linen and cushions to be changed but offered no apology or refund. Moreover, there seemed to be colonies of ants around the kitchen sink and balcony door ledges. We purchased and sprayed insecticide onto the affected areas, but to no avail. We then informed Kudzai who arranged for a handyman to apply some pesticide that worked for a few days until the colonies reappeared. On the last day, I received a text message from Kudzai around 9.30am that we had to vacate the property by 10am despite the rea N.B. pics and written documentation are available for all the above, in case anyone doubts the truthfulness or accuracy of this review.
