While the stay had its ups and downs, it's important to highlight the positives. The owner, Abhinav, was a great guy, always approachable and friendly. The staff member serving tea was also very humble, caring, and made sure we had a pleasant experience. Their positive attitude truly stood out, and we felt taken care of thanks to them

We were a group of 3 friends and stayed at 12 Monks Rishikesh for 3 days. One of us stayed in the dorm (₹1500 total) and two of us in a private room (₹9200 total). The private room was basic, and the toilet was in poor condition. We later found a nearby property for ₹1200/night for all 3 of us, with far better quality — but we had already paid in advance, so couldn’t switch. The overall vibe was fine, and we only spent around ₹1000 on food at the hostel — mostly eating out or ordering online. However, our experience was marred by one particular staff member who created several issues during our stay. He was consistently rude and dismissive, often using the phrase “bahas kar rahe ho” even when we were just seeking clarification: 1. Room Service: We asked only for tea, but were rudely denied, despite being told earlier that room service wasn’t available. 2. Scooty Rental: We asked for a scooty for 2 hours. He insisted on a full-day charge (₹500), which we agreed to. When we returned the scooty in 2 hours, he demanded it back immediately, saying we had only asked for 2 hours — even though he had charged us for the full day. When we explained, he again dismissed us with “bahas mat karo.” 3. Early Morning Departure: We informed reception at 7 PM that we would leave at 4 AM. At 4 AM, our car was blocked by two other vehicles. When we called the staff, he refused to help, saying he couldn’t do anything, and again told us “bahas mat karo.” One of us had to urgently book a cab to Delhi for ₹3800 (receipt available). We waited until morning for the cars to be moved. In summary, we had a mixed experience. While Abhinav and the tea-serving staff were amazing and made our stay memorable, the behavior of one particular staff member left a bad impression. It’s unfortunate that this overshadowed an otherwise decent experience. We hope management addresses this issue for future guests.

I had to cut my stay at 12 monks hostel short and only stayed for 1 day, as I had family issues. The place has all one needs to feel comfortable. I liked the chill out outside area, the stage where there was a concert, the food was very delicious, the location is good, too. However the nicest part of this hotel are the staff, Dushyant in particularly. Not only I was reimbursed for my stay but he showed so much care and helped me with booking the first available flight back home (which was far from straightforward). I cannot thank you enough Dushyant.

They have a great social space and hold lots of events which is good for meeting people.

The dorm was very basic and not very clean. However it was more expensive than other cleaner and nicer hostels. The staff were not very helpful when I asked how I should travel from the airport, they said I must get a taxi and charged me 3000 INR - I later learned there are buses, and a taxi should be around 1500 INR so this felt a little dishonest.
