Upali Beach Surf Resort & Café

We booked a stay for 4 night. the arrival was a little confusing. the parking lot for tuktuks is about 5 to 7 minutes away from the location. for new customers, it is at first unclear that they would need to walk through a path between the bushes to the beach where the resort is. after calling them, they sent us someone to help get out luggage and guide us to the resort. we were welcomed with a welcome drink and a introduction to the resort and their philosophy. spoiler: they accomplished what there philosophy promised. the resort looks amazing. we selpt very well hearing the ocean at night. what we loved most was the welcoming attitude towards stray dogs. they offer surfing classes, too. from the resort you are within few minutes walking alongside the beach in the city of arugam bay, were you can find a lot of good restaurants, shopping opportunities and more. around this location there are a lot of activities, from visiting elephant rock to crocodile rock or a boat tour at the nearby lagoon. our entire stay we were taken care by nilu! in case you have questions or need support he is the man to go! during our travel through sri lanka our best stay

Location right on beach by surf break

The staff were incredibly helpful. The location couldn’t be more perfect, especially if you’re into surfing, you’re right next to Main Point. It’s honestly the ideal place to stay. You have all your basic needs covered: a bed, a shower, and a simple hut to sleep in. That’s really all you need. The surroundings are beautiful, and even if you’re a beginner, you can take surf lessons there. However, if you’re a beginner surfer, you might be better off staying somewhere else. But if you’re an experienced surfer and enjoy the sense of community, this is definitely a great place to stay.

Everything at the accommodation is quite basic, and it’s pretty hard to keep it clean since there’s no daily housekeeping. The pillows on the couch and the bathroom were also quite dirty. The accomodation is difficult to find, though. We got there by driving up a very steep road with Tuktuk and then taking a partly crumbled path. You can park your tuktuk at the top, and from there it’s about a 5–10 minute walk through the sand, carrying your bag, to reach the huts. There are no signs, and you have to make your way between local houses and a small temple. But that’s also part of what makes the place special. Once you’re there, you can easily reach the main street via the beach, just something to keep in mind when planning your trip.

everything was more than perfect . the staff members were all kind welcoming and very helpful . the place is breathtaking . the rooms are clean and spacious . loved it and highly recommend it to everyone .

Location is amazing it was 40 meters from our hut to the main point. Huts are simple but perfect. All the the staff are so friendly and helpful. Our new favourite place.

Le petit déjeuner avec cette vue tout les matins est juste incroyable, le personnel est adorable et la cabane sont basique mais il y a tout ce qui est nécessaire, un bon rapport qualité prix. J'aurai juste rêvé qu'il n'y ai pas de reef sur le spot de surf pour préserver mes petits pieds mais ça personne n'y peut rien 😅.

Best spot right in front of the point break. Cabins are rustic but have everything you need and priced very reasonably. We really enjoyed our stay here!
