Vero Homestay Galle- Your Home Away From Home!

The homestay looks exactly as it is pictured on booking. The apartment is on the ground floor and the host Vero lives upstairs. On the one hand it is nice that Vero is always home and looks after the house so we felt safe during our stay but on the other hand there was only little privacy. Although Vero is a warm person who speaks English very well we had a few problems. However, Vero is a very open and lovely host if you have a question or need anything she is immediately available in person or over WhatsApp. We could always ask her for help and advice from renting cars, hospital visits to needing more bedsheets/towels. We’ve had troubles with loud animals on the house roof but Vero took care of it and after some days it was more quiet. We booked the apartment for several weeks with breakfast and we got a nice small breakfast with a good variety each day from Monday until Saturday.

Upon arrival, we were informed that we had to pay additionally for WIFI, electricity (which includes A/C!), water and gas! We did not know this in advance and felt trapped as we had already booked and paid to stay for 7 weeks. Vero told us that she’s not able to write the text for her booking advertisement herself to add the fact about additional costs. She also told us that we should have asked her in advance about additional costs… but we texted/called her upfront to ask about kitchen equipment and she could have informed us about this when we spoke. In addition, it was not as clean as the rating suggests and there were lots of animals in the house (geckos, ants, cockroach,…) but we got used to it since the house is surrounded by nature. We recommend reading the small prints and texting Vero in advance to clarify any uncertainties and additional payments before booking to avoid arguments!
