A Look at Ortigia - Bright Apartment

The apartment is located on the second floor of a renovated building in a quiet and picturesque district of Ortigia, which was ideal for our stay. In the neighborhood, you can find nice and less touristy options for food and coffee. Small beaches and Ortigia’s main parking garage are also not far away. The apartment itself was very comfortable for two people, offering spacious rooms, two bathrooms, all necessary facilities, a nice partial view of the sea, and plenty of sunlight.

The water pressure in the shower was a bit weak, even though there was a pump, but it was still functional.

Excellent location! Close to the sea, charming neighbourhood with narrow streets and nice cafes. The apartment is very big, clean, comfortable beds. Kitchen works well. Easy check in. Would stay here again any time.

Comfortable bed. Clean unit. Great internet after the second day of our 19-day stay. The apartment had been recently renovated but had obvious problems. Cristina, the agency contact person, was always available to help.

We were not actually able to get into the property we had booked. At the beginning we couldn’t get into the substitute apartment either, because the key wouldn’t work. Three people came to help and finally the third person, the maintenance man, was able to tell us we had to push on the door knob, so the door would open. On another occasion, we couldn’t get the key out of the door. There was no ventilation in the apartment, so the towels never dried and we were supposed to pay over 20 euros to get new ones. There was a washing machine but we were told we couldn’t wash the towels or sheets. We did receive a second set of linen after 10 days but only because we had had so much trouble before then. Mould began to grow on the walls after about a week and by the end of our 19-day stay, the wallin one area were quite dark with mould. There was no light over the kitchen counter nor was there a desk, which was available in the apartment we had booked. We were studying Italian and wanted a work-place other than the kitchen table. There were 2 entrance doors but the outside door could only be opened with a key, because the buzzer to open the door from the inside wasn’t working. That meant that the person left inside couldn’t get out! So either both of us had to go downstairs to let one person out and then keep the keys or the person leaving had to open both doors and then re-enter the unit to leave the keys at the bottom of the stairs. Getting rid of the organics was a problem, because we weren’t given a container to put it in. So all the cats roaming the area could break open the bags we left outside. The heater in the living room did not function well enough to warm the cold air coming up from the stairs leading outside.

The apartment is located in the heart of Ortigia, close to the 2 small beaches that are available on the island. Me and my wife spent 3 weeks, remote working and visiting the area and the apartment is perfectly suitable for this as it's bright and spatious. The internet was powerful enough to support parallel online video meetings. Washing machine present and was very useful for the long stay. Special mention for the sea sunrise that can be admired from the windows.

Even though it is functional, the furniture is a bit outdated, especially in the bathrooms.
