Casa Verdi - House of Travelers

I met some amazing people, but that wasn't because of the hostel.

I booked a 3 bed room. When I arrived I was told that room didn't exist. When I pulled up my reso, the girl said "I don't know why the owner books that room, it doesn't exist, another girl complained that she wasn't getting what she booked." Okay, cool, so you are misrepresenting your accommodations?! I saw the reservation sheet. There was a private room available the entire time I was there, but no upgrade was offered to compensate for the fact that they couldn't give me what I booked. I was uncomfortable being out in a room with more beds than what I booked, the staff made it clear they didn't want to be there, and one chick had a CAT in the KITCHEN!! That's not only super unsanitary, but I am very allergic to cats and wouldn't have booked if I had been given any honest info about the stay. I had to eat oit every meal just to ensure there was no cat hair near my food. The bathrooms were also super moldy and gross. Their wifi sucks so much it is called "vodafone-sucks". You'd think for what they cjarge they could upgrade that. I never met the manager or owner and it was super impersonal. Not at all what I hoped for my stay.

the house is infested with mosquitoes regardless of seasons, lack of room dividers in room 4, in a period of extreme and unusual cold the heater was 'broken' and the space in the kitchen is very limited to even prepare a decent breakfast, not to mention the balconies always open even when not necessary which caused more mosquitoes to come in and more people getting sick in the hostel dorm. Presence of pets in the house.

This is more as a live-in family than a hostel. The owner, Santo, runs kind of a literary saloon, inviting guests to join. All the work is done by volunteers who came from Argentina in my case. The kitchen has plenty of kitchenware ready to cook even most advanced meals. Two rooms are 4-bed dorms, and the other two rooms are for families. The location is near a farmers market that is run up to 2 pm.

Mosquitoes. The owner tried to spray them out, but they returned with the vengeance!

Quirky and very friendly hostel with lovely helpful staff, in a grand old-style Catania apartment conversion. Particularly enjoyed the theatre improv comedy night and communal meal, and the kitten and dog! Nice shared balcony and lounge areas for relaxing, spotless shared kitchen.

Very charming and warm, easy to feel at home at. Lovely terrace. Well equipped communal kitchen.

Could be a little cleaner.
