DAR SEFFAH au cœur de la Médina

The manager met us at the parking and helped with the luggage,the place is located in the middle of Medina so it was easy to walk around,the alley close to the house was dark but we felt safe.She explained everything The house has 3 floors and the design is stunning: nice beds,comfy living room,good showers and open rooftop.The breakfast was prepared by Fatima and it was really delicious!It was like a private "us only" Riad!

The mosque next door had a prayer and it was too loud,but the next night we used earplugs and then it didn't bother us much.The stairs of the house are quite steep so it can be a problem for people who have issues with knees(our friend had a knee problem and she was struggling with it.)

Great location in the old medina yet somewhat away from the very busy tourist areas. Dar was beautifully decorated. Breakfast was excellent and Fati is just amazing allround (always helpfull, sweet and a great cook). She was a great source of information in spite of the fact that our French is not that good.

The second bathroom needed some maintenance as well as the separate toilet (the toiletseat was completely loose/broken). All 5 of us were therefore using the one bathroom, which was not ideal. However with a little maintenance this problem should be easy to fix.

We loved our stay at Dar Saffeh! Having the whole house was great, the rooftop was very nice. The accommodations, bedding, bathrooms, 3 bedrooms were all great. Fati was excellent and a great help! Edwige et Christophe were incredibly helpful and responsive - helping arrange tours, transfer from train and airport, and answering our questions! Fati who handles breakfast and onsite needs was superb! Very caring, helpful, and a great cook! The location right in the middle of everything was also fantastic. A little unnerving at first being in the middle of the winding roads in Fes Al Bali, but take a tour the first day to get familiar with the place and then it’s easy to get around. The people all over are so warm and welcoming, and helpful when they notice a foreigner is lost. We had many people point us in the right direction, some even walked us to where we wanted to go.

Steep and narrow stairs inside the house did make it difficult to get up and down - but I guess it’s part of the character of the home. In the winter, heating takes a while to warm up and the main common seating area wasn’t heated so we would stay in the dining room or up in the bedrooms. I wouldn’t say we “didn’t like” the property because of this, but just pointing these out for future visitors who may have more sensitivity to these items.

Fatima met us at the car park and brought us to the riad. She was very friendly, adaptable and helpful, and made us delicious breakfasts. She also offered to make us dinners as well, providing us with a menu to choose from. Living nearby, she was a great source of information and advice. The riad is embedded in the medina, so it is an excellent site to experience life in this unique neigbourhood, and from which to explore the huge Fez medina Lovely rooftop terrace with view over the city - terrific spot to end the day looking out over the rooftops as the lights come on!
