The Armoury: Stylish WW1 Bunker

Funky, comfortable and a great location

The property is noted by all as being exceptional and so it was for me. I stay in North Queensferry every week and it isn't often the bunker is available, so I took the opportunity when it arose. The history goes back way before WW1 and is worth reading through the folder kindly provided by the hosts. The place itself is essentially two long vaulted rooms, with a walk through lounge (c/w 10 ft snooker table, which doubles as a dining area) and kitchenette containing everything you need, e.g. microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, electric oven and all utensils. There is a medium sized TV with Freeview etc. The other room is a separate bathroom with large shower, sink and WC (which doesn't adjoin) the large bedroom with king size bed. Nicely decorated throughout, it's quirky but functional and cozy as well. Outside you can walk up to the old gun emplacement overlooking the Forth but regrettably, I had to leave early for work and arrive back late, so didn't really get the chance to see very much. Only thing to note is the additional insurance charge, which isn't made obvious when booking. There are options to pay either £30 for full cover or a £10 (non-refundable) admin fee to add up to £500 on your credit card, if there's any damage. I'm aware that the some people don't take care of properties like they should and understand why owners need to take precautions but personally I'd prefer any such charges to be included in the price.

Wall heaters took a while to heat up the room; if you leave the premises for a while, probs worth leaving them on. Bit of a hike to the WC during the night.

Very unique with a lovely homely feel, so stylish and very comfortable.

Very peaceful, had 4 nights of really good sleep. Bed was very comfortable. Didn’t have time to try the pool/snooker table but a nice bonus to have.

North queensferry is a beautiful place but would definitely recommend you need a car, it would Definitely benefit from a local pub and a few more shops. The log burner was a nice touch but its position seemed wrong, nearer the sitting area would be good. Phone network is bad in North & South Queensferry but not an issue for me. I will definitely try and book again.

The Armoury is really convenient for the train station in North Queensferry and has breathtaking views. There is a lovely Cafe nearby (Rankin) and you can even walk over the Forth Road Bridge to (South) Queensferry and its lovely shops, restaurants and pubs.The accommodation itself is quirky and spacious.

The bed was a little uncomfortable and the walk from the bedroom to the bathroom was a little long. There was also a strong, almost overpowering scent from the Glade Plug-in, used to mask the slight smell of damp in the bedroom. They should use a floral scent and a dehumidifier, as the cotton-fresh one was a bit much.
