Suisui Garden Ryokan (in the Art Hotel Kokura New Tagawa)

We originally booked two nights but decided to move to another hotel after the first night. Although this hotel is advertised as a four-star property, the facilities and cleanliness did not meet our expectations. The room felt old and poorly maintained. The mattress had visible stains that looked like mold, and we found short black hairs in the bathtub, despite neither of us having black short hair. The bathroom was particularly disappointing. The ventilation grille was so large that we could clearly see the dust-covered ductwork behind it, and there was a constant sewage smell coming from the drain. The soundproofing was also very poor. We could hear our neighbors using water and snoring, and there was a large gap under the door that allowed hallway light into the room. The most shocking moment was finding a large cockroach, approximately 4–5 cm long, while waiting for the elevator in the lobby. The room itself was much darker than the photos suggested, and the only view from the window was a collection of ventilation pipes and utility equipment. The courtyard visible from the breakfast area was beautiful, but it could not make up for the condition of the room and facilities. Breakfast was also disappointing, especially the rice, which was overcooked and had a porridge-like texture. While this hotel may be slightly cheaper than some other four-star hotels, basic cleanliness should not be optional. Unfortunately, we did not feel that even this minimum standard was met during our stay.

It's a cozy place, and we had a good rest here. The best part is the cost-effectiveness. And the garden is beautiful. I love breakfast here.

Well, it's an old hotel so you can find trace of time on almost all facilities. But if you already keep this in mind before check-in, I think most of people would like to be satisfied.
